Garden and Sports netting can and will kill wildlife 😔
If you have netting in your gardens, please raise it off the floor by at least 20cm, as this will at least keep them out of reach and harm from mammals (fox and badger cubs and Hedgehogs in particular)
Or if you're not using it, please consider putting it away out of reach. This will help protect our dwindling numbers of garden birds, as well as our mammals too.

⚠️ WHAT TO DO IF YOU FIND A TANGLED ANIMAL/ OR BIRD IN NETTING ⚠️
===========================================
1. CALL A WILDLIFE RESCUE IMMEDIATELY.
Time is vital; the quicker the animal gets the help it needs, the more likely something can be done. DO NOT POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA, as I've seen many well-meaning public members give the wrong/ outdated advice and, more often than not, search engines have the advice, which is also wrong. Phone a RESCUE OR A WILDLIFE FRIENDLY VET.
2. DO NOT release the animal. Constriction wounds of ANY kind can and will develop into something much more serious. The animal may initially look 'ok', but given a few hours to anywhere up to a week, those injuries can quickly develop into a condition known as 'pressure necrcosis', which, without veterinary intervention, will cause horrendous irreversible injuries or, worse, will become fatal.
3. If you are advised or must cut the netting, please ensure the animal is secure first. Then, after the netting is cut, place it into a secure box. If not, please wait with the animal.
DO NOT TRY HANDLING LARGE ANIMALS OR BIRDS ON YOUR OWN !!!
FOXES, BADGERS, BIRDS OF PREY, etc. CAN AND WILL INFLICT SERIOUS INJURIES, especially to those who are inexperienced. 🦊
REMEMBER... DO NOT RELEASE !!! I KNOW ITS TEMPTING.. BUT PLEASE DON'T!
Please remember, they DO NOT understand that you're trying to help them and that they are stressed and frightened.
WHO IS YOUR LOCAL RESCUE?
A very good wildlife rescue directory and one I can highly recommend is HelpWildlife.co.uk
www.helpwildlife.co.uk
Please listen to the advice given by a rescue. They are trying to help, and with your help/cooperation, you could save a life!
Which is what matters.
