Sadly, Merluza has returned to us today, as she was “too needy” for her new family and wanted constant attention. When she was not receiving attention, she was kicking litter out of the litter tray in protest. We did express that she was a very needy, clingy, highly intelligent cat before adoption and they did request a cuddly, affectionate cat. Unfortunately, having a clingy cat was not what they expected and they did not feel that they could cope with her. It is disappointing as on paper it was a perfect match and exactly what was asked for. We can only give people what they request. However, we are grateful that they brought her back to us rather than rehoming privately or letting her outside.

It is now more important than ever that Merluza’s next home is her forever home. We will be looking for a home with no other cats and no young children. Someone who has a lot of time for her and preferably works from home. She is spayed, chipped and fully vaccinated. Must be indoors only.

💔💔Last Appeal.💔💔

We now appear to be in the last few days of the judicial review for the Lorca contract. It is quite possible that we will be prevented from reserving any more Lorca dogs….maybe as early as Monday. We have been…and continue to be BEYOND WORRIED. 😢

It is time for our last appeal for help.

We have reason to be even more concerned for dogs that are…

Aggressive/scared

In other words….beautiful but difficult to re-home.

Some of our available dogs fit into those categories, others do not, maybe they have just been overlooked, maybe people are believing others will save them. ALL of them matter and deserve a better life.

The volunteers have spent the last couple of months getting to know these dogs. If you are interested in saving one of these Lorca dogs, please do so NOW!! Please do not delay believing someone else will rescue them. We are now nearing the end and their chances are now less than slim.

HOW CAN I ADOPT A CAT IF I LIVE IN THE UK? 🤔

The adoption process is easy peasy and one (or more) of our volunteers will be there to hold your hand throughout. Here's what happens:

1. Select your cat (we can provide extra info and photos/videos to help you choose your perfect forever friend).
2. We provide a quote (adoption fee to the pound is 70-80 euros and includes everything your new cat needs for travel such as microchip, passport, and vaccinations, and the transport cost is usually between 250-400 pounds depending on transport space and where you are based) and a date for delivery (usually door to door). Please note that Whisker Warriors Spain does not make any money on adoptions (and often actually loses money during the process) as we are all volunteers.
3. A homecheck takes place; usually in the form of a questionnaire and some photos/videos of your home, and sometimes a video call.
4. Once the homecheck is complete and the payments made, you sit back and relax while our volunteers prepare your new friend for travel and send you regular updates.
5. Once your adoptee is loaded onto the transport, transport will be in contact with you directly to keep you updated on the journey and with a more accurate ETA.

Monday update:

Little Ojo was reserved over the weekend.

We have decided to rehome Pecan and Bright Eyes as a pair (although if anybody wants a trio, they are welcome to take Cashew too). Cashew will be looking for a family with a lot of time for her as she likes children.

Coco and Luna will be returning to the cafe from foster care next week and will be searching for a home together.

All four of last week’s adoptions have settled well. There are some photos below.

It’s going fantastic for 3 weeks in. Malteser and Milkybar were about to sent to a cat colony in Spain in an attempt to save them from the LORCA list. They did not like being touched and were not thought to be adoptable

Adoptions 125 and 126 - Phoebe and Willow.

We’re so happy that these girls have found such lovely cat parents to take a chance on them.

We’d been desperate to bring Phoebe to the cafe and give her chance at a proper home for almost a year before she came into our care. And she paid us back tenfold by being the most lovely little cat with a lot of character. While she was with us she had some emergency dental and we did the best we could for her eye. Her quality of life and comfort level has definitely improved. We’ll miss her mania over food, her sofa hogging antics and her tunnel lurking. She’s brought a lot of happiness to us in the months we’ve known her and we know she will bring that happiness to her new family, too.

Willow came on fantastically during her time at the cafe. She came to us after a terrible early life and flourished around the other cats. She has the sweetest nature and has never so much as hissed at another cat. She’ll be the perfect companion and play buddy for Phoebe and we hope they’ll be best friends for life. We’ll miss her quiet presence in the cafe, her calmness around the other cats and how food turned her from a mouse into a monster.

Good luck girls, you are so lucky and will be so loved. We’ll miss you both.

Adoption 124 - Merluza. What a wonderful character. She’s off to be a very spoilt family pet with no other animals. She’ll be a huge miss in the cafe. We’ll miss her following us around and demanding attention, her standing on her back legs for pets and her wonderful cuddles. We’ve had a fantastic few months with her and wish her all the best. Adoption 123 - Beanie (formerly blossom). Beanie was formally adopted by her foster parents today. We’re so glad she’s found a stable, loving home after having such a turbulent young life. She’s a wonderful, playful cat that is full of life and incredibly friendly despite everything. She deserves a family that will shower her with love, attention and toys which she now has. Thanks so much to her fosterers/ adopters for helping us out and falling in love with her. Good luck, Beanie.

Adoption 122 - Turmeric/Dolly. Turmeric was one of the cats from the Lorca list that we fundraised to bring over. She is the mother of Chive and Parsley, who we have in our care. Originally, she was not a cafe cat, as a local family adopted her and brought her over. They asked us to foster her over December as they were going on their holidays. For various reasons, they were unable to go ahead with the adoption on their return. Luckily, it’s a happy ending for Turmeric, as her foster family have fallen in love with her and adopted her officially yesterday. She has really bonded with her new cat siblings while in foster care and enjoys playing and napping with other young cat. She has come out of her shell fantastically as she was very timid and overwhelmed while in the Spanish shelter. We are so pleased she’s got the family she deserves and she feels comfortable already.
