We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated towards our Purrs Christmas Shoebox Appeal, we received so many lovely gifts for our foster cats & kittens and they have all had so much fun today playing with their new toys and eating their food & treats! (And most of the time… being more interested in the box it came in 🙈)
Here’s a few pictures of our hand-rears enjoying opening a couple of their parcels and playing with their toys, they have been absolutely spoilt! We shall share more pictures over the next few days of our kitties with their gifts. 🎁🐾

🐈⬛💖🐾 We've had a lovely check-in. Jasper (was Chuck, one of Amara's boys) was adopted back in August. He's growing into such a handsome young man. He enjoys time outside on a harness & has won over his Aunty Amber 🥰 Jasper has the cutest toe beans! 🐾💖🐈⬛

🐈⬛🎄💖🐾 We have received a very kind donation of £100 from Natasha Kennedy & Dawn Rowley 'incase of emergencies' over the Christmas Holidays, we can't thank you enough! 🙏 I'm going to get a bit emotional here. I never thought that the 2 little ginger ninjas Dale & Brennan who needed help, would lead to this. Myself & Penny are amazed with how our rescue has grown in just a few short months. I often say there could be a rescue on every street & it would never be enough! We can only do what we do with you, our brilliant supporters behind us and for that we are so grateful 💖 We can't save every cat but, we do try to ensure the cats in our care have the best food, love & treatment that we can give until they find their forever home. We truly cannot believe we are saying this… but we are so honoured to have been chosen as one of the rescue’s Animal Rescue Volunteers will be supporting financially for 2024! 🙀💖
ARV are a fellow non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting smaller / lesser known animal rescues by fundraising and collection donations. Each year they choose rescues to support financially, and we are so lucky to be chosen alongside Hannah’s Guinea Pig Sanctuary, The Garden Sanctuary, Central England Reptile Rescue & Bird of Prey Sanctuary and TeamCatRescue!
We have only been operating since July ‘23, so as a new, non-funded rescue this support means more to us than we could ever express, and will be such a huge help throughout the upcoming year! 🥺
ARV do such amazing work including sharing rescue’s posts and boosting their pleas, collecting & distributing donations, fundraising with their fabulous events and providing help and advice - they are truly a wonderful team of selfless volunteers so please go across, give their page a follow and support them where possible! 💕

We have been to see the lovely ladies at White Cross Vets, Bloxwich today to pay your donations towards James’ vet bill, we have been overwhelmed with your support and thanks to a £100 donation yesterday and £50 today direct to our vets, we have paid the remaining £50.50 to clear it completely! 🙀 The remaining funds we have had donated for James will be kept to put towards her appointment on the 28th and any emergency appointment/s if needed.
Our account balance is now back to £0 and this is all thanks to your kindness and generosity. You continue to blow us away and we will never take your support for granted. Thank you all so so much, love all of us here at Purrs 🥺💖🐾

With the last of our planned vet appointments before the big day being yesterday, Purrs are officially closed for Christmas! 🎅🏼🎄
We will still be here updating the page, responding to enquiries, messages, comments and emergencies as usual but please bear in mind it may take us a little longer to get back to you. Rescue is a full time job (on top of a full time job for some of us!) so we are hoping to get a little time to relax with our loved ones. 💕
So, with all of that being said we want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas from everyone here at Purrs! Whether you’re spending it with family, friends, loved ones or your furry companions - we hope it’s a good one! We know this time of year can be tough for some so please look after yourselves and look after each other, that’s what the spirit of Christmas is all about. 🐈⬛💖🐾

Our beautiful James was back at the vets this morning for a check up after her operation to repair her hernia & be spayed. She has been crate-rested since her operation and has only been allowed out to stretch her legs and for cuddles (which she is having plenty of!) to allow her site time to heal. She is a very energetic and playful 13 week old kitten, so unfortunately this is the only way to ensure she remains calm and rests.
She has had slight swelling of the area which is to be expected, but this morning there is a significant protruding swelling. It doesn't seem to be causing her any discomfort or pain, it isn't hard and isn't hot to the touch. Our vet thinks she may have developed another hernia, which can happen with the operation. She is back at the vets on the 28th which will have given time for the swelling from the operation to go down, where we will then be able to get a clearer picture of what’s going on. If the swelling becomes hard, hot to touch or she seems unwell or in pain we are to take her straight back / to the emergency vets.
This really wasn’t the news or results we were hoping for, but this girl is a little fighter and our Christmas miracle - we know she can get through anything. 🥺
We are so sorry to have to ask especially at this time of year, but James’ operation cost £200.50 and we know this total will increase, even more so with a possible emergency vet trip over the festive period. If anyone is able to donate towards this, even just £1, we would be most grateful as every single penny counts & helps. We’ve received even more amazing goodies! This time from the lovely Karen Screen & Francis Savage. Instead of exchanging gifts this year they decided to put the money towards buying food for our rescue kitties - and we truly couldn’t be more grateful! 😻🎄💖

We are very, very happy to say our lovely James is settled back home! 🥺
The operation went well, her hernia has been repaired and she was also spayed & microchipped while under the anaesthetic. Our vets did such an amazing job, she’s a very small 13 week old kitten so this was a huge task and we couldn’t be more pleased with their work. She has to have crate rest to allow her site to heal (which she isn’t too happy about!) and she is back on Thursday for a check up. Thank you all for your kind words and well wishes, it means the world to us all here at Purrs. We’ll continue to keep you updated! 🐈⬛💖🐾

Our beautiful James was dropped off to the vets this morning ahead of her operation, as you can see… she didn’t think much of the early vet trip! 🙈
Please please keep her in your thoughts, it’s a very worrying time but we know this is the only option for her. With her being so small they are using a different anaesthetic to hopefully make things easier on her. We will do a full update later on and keep everyone updated. 💖🐾

As you may have seen from our previous post, our beautiful James has an umbilical hernia so it was decided she would stay in rescue until she’s of age / weight to be neutered so she can have the operation to fix the hernia at the same time. (Yes, you may notice we’re referring to James as a she, that was another recent discovery! 🙈).
Today we noticed the lump had tripled in size and was very hard (whereas it usually feels soft and squishy) so we called our vets and they got us booked in for a check up. The lump gets bigger (and smaller) because of her intestines pushing through, and it felt hard because of trapped gas inside of the hernia. Because of this we have had a discussion and decided to bring forward her operation to repair the hernia (and be spayed) to tomorrow as a matter of urgency. There is a risk with the surgery due to her size, but leaving her hernia is even more dangerous as it can quickly become life threatening. We have every faith in our lovely vets and know they’ll do everything they can. Please please all keep her in your thoughts and prayers, and as always we will keep you updated. 💖🐾

We here at Purrs would like to say a great big thank you to Dawn Ferguson and especially Luke for raising money via a raffle towards our shoebox appeal. And bringing the donations in today (picture below) we really do appreciate what you have done.
Also to June who has donated some kitten milk and Donna Katie who has send some shoeboxes for our cats and kittens to enjoy over the Christmas period.🎅🎄

With the rescue closing for Christmas today (don’t worry, we’ll still be here for help, advice, emergencies & posts!) and clearing our vets bill on Friday, this has got us thinking about food for our rescue kitties over the festive period. If anyone could donate any cat / kitten food and biscuits we would be most grateful, so we are able to keep some funds in the kitty in case of an emergency. 🏥🐾
Below is a list of food we use most often, but we will be grateful for any and all donations as it will all get used here in rescue! We have multiple drop off points and can collect locally, please message us to arrange this. 💕
We have a donation drop off point at Pets & Friends Walsall and are currently organising more locations. (if any of you know any local supermarkets that wouldn’t mind having a drop off point for us, please get in touch!)

🐈⬛💖🐾 Mistletoe's temperature has come down to the higher end of normal. The vets weren't unduly concerned as she is bright, well hydrated & her chest is clear plus she is still eating. Possibly she has a virus brewing? They advised us to continue with the metacam, check her temperature tomorrow & visit our own vets if we are still worried. They didn't prescribe antibiotics at this point. We were able to pay the bill today thanks to you, our supporters, who kindly take part in our fundraising events. For that we are extremely grateful! 🐾💖🐈⬛

🐈⬛🤎🖤🧡🐾 I was up at 5am feeding the 'Sofa Kittens' so grabbed a coffee & hopped back in my bed for an hour. This little treasure was keeping my spot warm 😍 Mistletoe has been in our care 11 days now. She is such a sweetheart & never stops purring 🥰 She just loves curling up on the bed. I don't often have fosters in my home as i have pens in my garden. Sometimes you have to make the exception! 🐈⬛💙🐾 We would like to introduce you all to Luca 🥰This little guy was brought into our care this afternoon. Sadly his owner was no longer able to care for him due to complex reasons 😔 Luca is approximately 10 months old, he is such a friendly young man and loves lots of fuss! Luca will be going to our vets to be neutered & start his vaccinations later this week then hopefully, will find his forever home before Christmas 🤞 We will keep you updated on Luca's progress 🐾💙🐈⬛
🐈⬛🤞🐾 Just a quick update on our new additions. The kittens are so very tiny, especially the little white & black one 😔 Rule of thumb is kittens should weigh around about 100g per week of age. Weenie is only 204g & should be closer to 400g. We are giving all 5 kittens regular top ups of formula milk. We will, as always, do our very best for this little family. Mom has calmed down and is now having regular meals, so hopefully, she will produce more milk for her kittens. All 5 are very active so we are staying optimistic 🙏 We will keep you updated 🐾🤞🐈⬛

🐈⬛🩷😔🐾 Lady Marmalade had to undgo unnecessary surgery today. She was already spayed 😕 This is no reflection on our vets, this was the only way to be sure she is spayed. Lady Marmalade had to have a mid-line spay which is more invasive. Hopefully she will recover quickly 🤞 Why spay your cat & not microchip? It makes no sense! Not only is this beautiful girl lost (every avenue has been exhausted), she has also been put through surgery which could have been avoided! If Lady Marmalade could speak, she would say microchip your cats & keep the details up to date! Since being back with her foster mom, Lady Marmalade has eaten well & is now snuggled up in her bed 🥰 We will keep you updated on her recovery 🐾😔🩷🐈⬛

🐈⬛🧡🐾 Our sassy little lady, Ginny, was spayed last week. Unfortunately she developed a small area of infection in the wound 😔 Thankfully this was picked up quickly by her foster mom! Ginny has been on antibiotics for 5 days & is going for a check-up tomorrow. Fingers crossed the infection has cleared up🤞We will update you tomorrow as if all's well, Ginny can be reserved ready for adoption 🐾🧡🐈⬛

🐈⬛🥺🐾 We were contacted Sunday to say a momma had given birth in someone's home. The family wanted to help but didn't have a spare room. We do have a waiting list and apologise to those who feel they are being overlooked but, we do have to prioritise the most vulnerable. This little girl is only a kitten herself and needed somewhere safe to nurse her kittens. A huge thank you to Laura for stepping in to care for Emily & Annie so that Coraline could have a warm pen for herself & her 4 kittens. Again, sorry to those on our waiting list. We will do our very best to help asap 🐾🥺🐈⬛

🐈⬛ 💙 🐾 Hayden came to us from another rescue. He was quite poorly and has needed ongoing steroids, pain relief & antibiotics. He is now stable & is doing well 🥰 He has gained so much weight! This is the side of rescue people don't always see. Your kind donations have meant we can provide Hayden the care and treatment he needs 🐾 💙 🐈⬛
🐈⬛ 💙 🐾 Harry had a check-up at our vets today following his visit to Poole House out of hours the previous morning. He still has quite a high temperature. Our vets said he has a virus, so Harry has been prescribed antibiotics & an anti-inflammatory for 5 days. Tonight, he's much brighter & tucking in to some chicken 🐾 💙 🐈⬛
