Keep your pets safe ๐
As Iโm sure many of you are aware, we have been changing our patients over to a different flea product ๐
Many people are dubious at the idea of giving their cat a tabletโฆ as you can see from the video, theyโre extremely palatable ๐๐ป
๐ Firework season is nearly upon us ๐
There are many things that you can do to help reduce your dogs anxiety ๐ถ we will be sharing tips throughout the next couple of months.
Sometimes they need a little extra help ๐
We have an anxiety questionnaire that you can complete so we can get a good idea of what is the most appropriate course to take. There are medications available that make loud noises a lot less scary ๐ซถ๐ผ
Please ask at reception or email us requesting a questionnaire ๐

Tizzy suffers from chronic Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC) ๐ฑ
Part of the ongoing management of her condition involved environmental assessment and modification, diet, medication and supplements.
To help with her FIC further she comes in to have laser therapy with our Registered Veterinary Nurse Katie.
Tizzy wasnโt the best at travelling to the practice so initially we looked at how to reduce this stress โ as stress is a contributing factor in FIC. By looking at carrier choice we managed to find a more appropriate carrier to help with Tizzyโs journey. Cat carrier training had previously been carried out but she had struggled being shut in. Swapping to a larger plastic carrier, with a clear door enabled her to reduce her stress and travel in the car better. She also came in to practice at quieter times to reduce the likelihood of loud noises that sheโd find scary ๐ฅน
Laser therapy is a non-invasive procedure that helps to reduce inflammation, promote cell regeneration and reduce pain. With her FIC Tizzy has a chronically inflamed bladder and during her FIC flare ups she suffers from frequent, bloody urination which is painful. Therefore by reducing the inflammation and helping with pain relief we are able to help these episodes to clear up sooner, and to make her less uncomfortable.
Tizzy is a foodie so tolerates laser really well when her owner holds her and distracts her with a lick e lix. Whilst she was in we also lasered her back as she suffers from arthritis ๐ป
Laser can be used for a variety of conditions, we commonly use it in arthritic animals. Cats can tolerate it really well as they can have their owner present whilst the laser is carried out. It feels warm on their fur/skin and the glass ball that is used can feel like a massge.
As you all know, Katie is very passionate about cat welfare and anything she can do to help reduce the stress of a visit to the surgery. If you have any cat related queries please contact us to book in with
๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฐ Flystrike ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฐ
We are now in the season where rabbits are at risk of this awful disease.
It can occur whenever you see flies about, the flies are attracted to laying their eggs in warm moist areas and are attracted by urine, faeces and blood.
Rabbits commonly get fly strike underneath the tail after passing urine or when the first part of digestion produces the sticky moist faeces that can stick to the fur. They can however also get fly strike if they develop any wounds or scratches on the body.
The fly lays eggs in the area which can quickly hatch into maggots, the maggots feed on the flesh of the rabbit causing immense tissue damage and pain, rabbits with fly strike can die from the shock of this or develop severe infections if not caught early.
The condition can affect both indoor and outdoor bunnies.
We advise twice daily checks of your rabbits and also the use of a fly strike product that help prevent the eggs from hatching into maggots.
Our Rabbit Care plans include twice yearly applications of a fly strike product to help you protect your rabbits.
If you wish to discuss or book your rabbit in for application of the treatment for prevention of flystrike in your rabbit please contact our reception team ๐ฐ
The Vetsforpets website has further details on how to protect your rabbits and the signs to look out for ๐
The sped up video below shows Veterinary Nurse Alison applying the flystrike treatment to a very patient patient ๐ซถ๐ผ
