Treacle came out for a walk
What do you do to unwind?
How do you manage the stresses of life?
How do you ground yourself when you can feel it all getting overwhelming?
What do you do to have a clear head and be able to focus?
Horses have a very special way of reminding us to be in the moment. To be aware of our surroundings and what’s happening right there and then.
At the same time you can be in a happy place without having to think about other pressures from life.
Treacle was quite fearful of the water when she first encountered it. This big scary puddle could have drowned her, in her mind!
But through the power of positive reinforcement, being able to assess and do it in her time, the trust we have built in each other and she has built in her herd. She didn’t find it scary anymore.
She loved it. I’m not sure who was prouder, me or her 😂
Trust and respect is something horses teach us. Forcing the water on her wouldn’t have made her want to walk through it. It would also have ruined the trust we have in each other.
We came to a mutual decision.
We converse with each other continuously. Even if I’m not interacting with her directly. Being open to her communication means that she can communicate with me if she feels the need. She knows that I will listen and respond.
That’s what I do to unwind. I spend time with this beautiful girl.
When I need grounding I watch her. I wait for her to come to me. Some days she doesn’t as she’s busy being a horse. Seeing her pals or stuffing her face with grass….. and that’s ok. Because just being around her makes my heart smile!
