Over and OUT!

The 2024 foaling season finally drew to a close on Friday. It has been a period of highs and lows.

First up was our beautiful thoroughbred Specific Dream who surprised us all by giving up her Stradivarius c**t one chilly morning in the field....Grace will be having words with her about doing that again 🫣

Second up our darling Ciella gave us a text book foaling before midnight with her c**t, now named Ciello. He is from dressage stock and is already doing pirouettes in the field 🕺

And then came The Longest Night. Emma wasn't able to stay. She left Maybelle with us and we found her sweet, lovely foster mum who had also suffered her own loss. We continue to support them both with everything we have 🎀🙌

Then, after a wait, on Friday 'The Strawberry One' finally treated us to a civilised evening foaling and was relieved of a little c**t by Dulcie. He is as bright as can be and a credit to her long wait. Strawberry had a difficult time last year and came to NFS for her foaling to be overseen by Grace and the team. 🥰🍓

In addition to this and away from NFS Katie and Dolly have also foaled successfully after coming to NFS to have their A.I. We are delighted to get such happy news which is testament to the high welfare, intuitive approach Grace takes to this part of breeding. We pay respect to Katie and Dolly's owners who we hope are enjoying their foals! 🤩🤩

So that's it...that's a wrap as they say. It's been a tough one at times but the foaling team have been there with unconditional love and compassion every step of the way. They are absolutely and none of them would have it any other way - even though they haven't slept properly for weeks! Utterly brilliant they are 😎

What's up with Charlie Hubbard?

North Farm Stud has become a Spa this week with the installation of a Newmarket Equine Salt Therapy System .

Becky says:
"We have been using the salt machine for 5 days now and the results we are seeing are amazing! A distinct reduction of symptoms in horses that have been coughing chronically during exercise and for the horses we are putting in to improve their coats, there is a noticeable difference already"

We are so happy to have this incredible feather in our rehabilitation and wellbeing cap 💪

Funds raised at the Celebrity Golf Day will go towards the project to build a new Education Centre, to enable us to meet the high demand of SEN students requiring an alternative education provision in our area. The new Education Centre will allow us to double the number of places we offer from 60 to 120 per week.

Monday morning Maybelle 🎀 update

Maybelle is still going strong, and has been back with us for over a week. She has been settling in with her foster mum and has put on 6kg in 6 days 👍

It is a desperately sad situation still and both have received lots of extra support to make sure they are as healthy and happy as possible.

Looking for yard people!

Seriously folks this is such a great place to work and full training can be given. It is an exciting and varied role with great people and of course our wonderful horses. The setting is super beautiful too.

Maybelle 🎀

We are devastated to have lost Emma to post partum complications. Our hearts are broken 💔

Despite a very difficult delivery Maybelle bounced back and has proved to be a curious, confident and strong little filly, if she had been anything less we are sure she wouldn't have made it. She is the absolute double of her gorgeous Mumma.

We put out an SOS for a foster mare and were bowled over by the sharing and messages of help we received. This support from the community warmed our broken hearts - we thank you all 🙏

There was no time to lose once we found a mare and so, with a flask of formula we set off to Newmarket. We stopped where we could for feeds and checks, Maybelle was amazing. Seeing her alone in the back of the trailer was incredibly sad, we gave her all the love and reassurance we could.

Thankfully all is going well with her new mum and we hope Maybelle will be home soon.

North Farm Stud have a vacancy for a yard person to join their ground team. This diverse role requires someone who work hard and 'get stuck in'. Experience in handling horses is a bonus but not essential. The role will include all aspects of maintenance and ground work to keep the stud in order.

So we have some news...Hello world #2!

We are so excited to share the news that Ciella foaled her second Timolin c**t. The photos show first time on all 4 feet (left) and a week later (right). Ciella took everyone by surprise late one evening with Grace and Dulcie getting there just in time to oversee the safe arrival 🌟

Ciella is a beautiful brood mare belonging to Grace. She is from showjumping background, her c**ts have been huge! This c**t is even more special as he is Dulcie's first solo delivery 💪

Hello world!

We are delighted to share the news that Specific Dream foaled her beautiful Stradivarius c**t this week 🥰

Having stayed up all night on foal watch Grace was about to get some sleep when foaling started in the field...in daylight. This is very unusual but the team pulled together to make sure everything went smoothly both in the field and on the yard. They really are 💪

Mare and foal are doing very well the (not so) little boy was up in 20 minutes and causing havoc as we tried to move them both to the stable 🤩..more pics in the comments.

The 2023's...
..went out to play!

Introducing the '23 crop. On the left, a Ciella c**t, Timello (stable name Colin) and on the right a TB c**t from the lovely Specific Dream who will be named at registration.

Both boys have wintered well together with lots of socialisation and learning and now it's time to play in the sunshine 🌞. Videos in the comments.

Distinction 👨‍🎓

Well he's only gone and smashed it. This week Fin finished his apprenticeship at North Farm Stud Equestrian with distinction. Well done Fin, we are incredibly proud of you 🎉🎊💪

Fin says:
'Doing my apprenticeship at NFS and HEROS has been so much fun! I have learnt so much from general equine health care to studwork and of course riding including the HEROS retraining programme. It has been incredible. The opportunities you get here are over and above and the training from the team and our training provider KEITS both rewarding and beneficial. I am so grateful for all the support I have had whilst completing my apprenticeship'.

So whilst Fin takes a well earned break we will be looking for a new person (or 2) to fill his boots... could it be you or someone you know?

At North farm Stud, home to HEROS Charity, we have approximately 100 horses on site, ranging from breeding stock and competition horses to our former racehorses who are with us for rehabilitation, retraining and rehoming. We are very proud of our excellent facilities catering entirely for every aspect of a horse’s life from cradle to grave.
A unique and fantastic place with many opportunities to be involved in the different ventures North Farm stud are host to. A busy, dynamic environment where candidates will benefit and learn from the wealth of experience and deep equine knowledge of the team where the highest standards of animal welfare are practiced and promoted.
We are looking for grooms with experience of working on an equestrian yard in any capacity including riding/non riding positions. Limited mucking out as we have a team for this. We welcome applications from those who have equine qualifications and proven riding skills. Experience is desirable but training can be given. There is opportunities apprenticeships for the right person.
