North Farm Stud - three generations of Thoroughbred experience and the home of

Fawley Stud was set up in the early 1950s by David (Ian) and Agnes Muir and their success was built on the performance of horses bred there. Among these was WHAT A MYTH, who was bred at Fawley Stud and trained by Ryan Price and who won the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1969 and the Whitbread at Sandown in 1966.

Ryan Price was a regular customer at the stud and a friend of the Muir family. After selling Fawley Stud in 1982, Mr and Mrs Muir spent seven years negotiating with the planning authorities for permission to get change of use on the current site which is now of North Farm Stud. North Farm Stud Ltd was established in 1989 and many of Mr & Mrs Muir's old owners returned to them. Since then the facility has gone from strength to strength under the management of, their youngest daughter, Grace Muir, who was appointed this position in 1998 and continues to build on its past successes. Having found many new homes and careers in the early years for horses in their care who had retired from Racing, North Farm Stud is now dedicating additional resources to its racehorse rehoming and retraining activities in support of the Racing Industry. Grace finally received Charitable Status for a charity called HEROS Charity (Homing Ex-Racehorses Organisation Scheme) in 2006. The charity is based at North Farm Stud and therefore is looked on as the β€œHome of HEROS”.

Guess who's back?!

Our girl Beechwood Park Lady returned this week to Richard Phillips Racing in order to continue with her education. She has had a break and pre training and now she's back at it. As you can see from this great bit of hat cam she seems quite OK with cantering up the gallops in the autumn sunshine 🌞 Sound up to hear all the encouragement and reassurance her rider was giving (and singing) to her πŸ”ˆ We love this!

Delighted she has gone back to Adlestrop where she settled beautifully. Thanks to all the team we look forward to updates and, of course, visits πŸ˜€

Has anyone wondered what it must be like to ride a racehorse...in a race?

Check out this phenomenonal footage of one of the HEROS horses The Magical McCool who has just been rehomed.

We are so grateful to his racing owner Amanda and his new owner Quinlan for giving us permission to use this video πŸ™

Original sound left on for full effect. Magic is the one with the black colours.

Top gun...eat your heart out!

Holidays are over! After a break both Valuable and Beechwood have set off for a little retraining before they return to their training yard at Richard Phillips Racing .

It is really important for horses to have some downtime and break from training. This also gives us a chance to see to (and solve) any niggles or ongoing issues. It's all about attention to detail. Now they are both good to go! πŸ’« Hope they have fun.

Timello Day πŸ₯³

Born in March 2023 Timello has been quietly growing up under the steady guidance of the yard team.

Yesterday morning he had never left NFS..and in the last 24 hours he has travelled twice and attended the Futurity assessments at Catherston Stud where he was awarded GOLD πŸͺ™

We are absolutely delighted with the feedback received for our beautiful (not so) little c**t. As you can see from the pics he literally gleamed in the sun and with temperament to match - no one would ever believe it was his first experience πŸ’ͺ🌟

Thank you to Rebecca Struve and Dilly West. Timello reflected their calm, kind approach, he is a wonderful example of horses produced and prepared at NFS.

Delighted? You bet we are πŸŽ‰β˜ΊοΈ

Over and OUT!

The 2024 foaling season finally drew to a close on Friday. It has been a period of highs and lows.

First up was our beautiful thoroughbred Specific Dream who surprised us all by giving up her Stradivarius c**t one chilly morning in the field....Grace will be having words with her about doing that again 🫣

Second up our darling Ciella gave us a text book foaling before midnight with her c**t, now named Ciello. He is from dressage stock and is already doing pirouettes in the field πŸ•Ί

And then came The Longest Night. Emma wasn't able to stay. She left Maybelle with us and we found her sweet, lovely foster mum who had also suffered her own loss. We continue to support them both with everything we have πŸŽ€πŸ™Œ

Then, after a wait, on Friday 'The Strawberry One' finally treated us to a civilised evening foaling and was relieved of a little c**t by Dulcie. He is as bright as can be and a credit to her long wait. Strawberry had a difficult time last year and came to NFS for her foaling to be overseen by Grace and the team. πŸ₯°πŸ“

In addition to this and away from NFS Katie and Dolly have also foaled successfully after coming to NFS to have their A.I. We are delighted to get such happy news which is testament to the high welfare, intuitive approach Grace takes to this part of breeding. We pay respect to Katie and Dolly's owners who we hope are enjoying their foals! 🀩🀩

So that's it...that's a wrap as they say. It's been a tough one at times but the foaling team have been there with unconditional love and compassion every step of the way. They are absolutely and none of them would have it any other way - even though they haven't slept properly for weeks! Utterly brilliant they are 😎

What's up with Charlie Hubbard?

North Farm Stud has become a Spa this week with the installation of a Newmarket Equine Salt Therapy System .

Becky says:
"We have been using the salt machine for 5 days now and the results we are seeing are amazing! A distinct reduction of symptoms in horses that have been coughing chronically during exercise and for the horses we are putting in to improve their coats, there is a noticeable difference already"

We are so happy to have this incredible feather in our rehabilitation and wellbeing cap πŸ’ͺ
