I woke up at 4.20am today with a realisation about my research. I submitted my proposal a couple of weeks ago which was focusing on the difference between Neurodivergent and neurotypical pet owners, anthropomorphism (attributing human emotions and mental states to non-humans) and welfare.

I've since decided to go down the equine rabbit hole and let me tell you, it's pretty dark down here. The more I read about ridden horse welfare, the worse it gets. It's going to be a long and insightful 7 months

Do's and Dont's of Puppy Socialisation 🐾

Socialising your puppy is one of the most important steps in raising a confident and well-adjusted dog. Here’s a quick guide to help:

✅ Do's:

🐾Introduce new experiences slowly – Gradually expose your puppy to different sounds, sights, and environments.
🐾Meet a variety of people and dogs – Let your pup interact with dogs of all sizes and temperaments, as well as people of different ages.
🐾Use positive reinforcement – Reward your puppy with treats and praise during new experiences to create positive associations.
🐾Know your puppy’s limits – Keep sessions short and fun to avoid overwhelming them.

🚫 Dont's:

🐾Don’t force interactions – If your puppy seems scared or hesitant, give them time and space to adjust.
🐾Don’t overwhelm them – Avoid crowded, noisy areas until they’re comfortable with smaller environments.
🐾Don’t punish fear – Be patient and supportive if they seem nervous—it’s all part of the learning process.
🐾Don’t forget vaccines – Wait until your vet gives the all-clear before introducing your pup to unknown dogs or public spaces.

A little patience and planning now will help your puppy grow into a happy grown up doggo 🐕💛

The thing I love most about working with animals is seeing the joy on their faces when I make their dinner 😋, pull out their lead for a walk 🚶🏻‍♀️ or introduce them to new friends 🐾❤.

Animals are so fiercely loyal and have endless love to give us. I love being able to observe and get to know their personalities, and listen to their subtle communications.

They can't tell us what they want, so it's up to us to look for the small changes in behaviour and figure out what they are asking. I also love the fact that no two animals are the same, even if they are the same species and breed. 🐷🐕🐈🐇🐎🦆

Here are some of the most common mistakes we notice owners making when booking animal care:

1. Not booking enough nights for house sits - our rate covers a 24h period, so if we arrive at 8am on the first day we are due to leave at 8am on the last day of the booking. If you aren't back until later that day, we need to book a late return for you, otherwise we can book another house sit for the same day and unfortunately, we haven't figured out how to be in 2 places at once yet. Also, many owners will book an extra night if they are flying to account for any flight delays, which is always a good idea 💡.

2. Forgetting to book house sitting until the last minute ⌛- although we are now only doing house sitting for our regular customers now, we still have bookings up to 18 months in advance. Please book us in as soon as you book your holiday to avoid disappointment.

3. Not paying invoices on time ⌚- we get it, you're busy, but so are we! Chasing invoices takes up a lot of our time, time that would be better spent playing with the doggos or doing literally anything else.

If you have any holidays planned for 2025, book your house sit sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment. 🐾❤

This weather is crazy! England is really Englanding at the moment 🌨❄🌧🌦☔🌈

Some dogs do need to wear a coat in the cold weather, but please don't just dress up your dog "because it's cute" if they don't actually need it!

Some dogs that may benefit from wearing a coat include:
🐾Short-haired dogs
🐾Small dogs/dogs with short legs
🐾Dogs with coats that absorb water like spaniels and poodles
🐾Senior dogs
🐾Dogs with medical conditions
🐾Dogs that aren't used to a cold climate, like Nelly 🐕
