Be more like Dave❗

Dave is happily playing because he knows he has helped spread the word about Pet Blood Bank UK 🐶 🐾

You can do the same - if your dog is between 1 and 8 years old, weighs over 25kg, is happy, healthy, confident and friendly they could give blood and you can spread the word!

Pet Blood Bank UK is a charity that helps save lives by providing a blood service for pets. They run donation sessions across the UK, where owners can take their dogs to give blood.

Our very own Willows Veterinary Hospital is going to be a donor site, but we need you and your lovely dogs to help us get enough blood in our bank.

For more information visit the Pet Blood Bank UK Website or contact Willows Veterinary Hospital!

Did you know ❓

Your pets’ feeding and exercise routine may change when your pet is diabetic.

To keep blood sugar as steady as possible, you would need to feed your pet twice a day. They would need to eat the same amount and type of food every day.

Exercising uses up blood sugar so a set amount of exercise, at set times each day would be best for your pet.

If you have any concerns about feeding or exercising your diabetic pet, please contact your local Willows branch ☎️ 🐾

How diabetes can be treated⁉️

Just like people, diabetic animals need insulin.

Treatment usually involves:
• Insulin injections under the skin twice per day, usually for the rest of the pet’s life
• Dietary changes such as a low carbohydrate diet for cats, and a low sugar diet, balanced in calories and fats, for dogs - If caught early, weight loss in some obese diabetic cats can reverse their diabetes!

Did you know ❓

There are two types of diabetes 🔽

Type 1 - this is the most common type in dogs. It is where pancreatic cells are lost, and too few are left to produce insulin.

Type 2 - this is the most common type in cats, although it can also affect dogs. It is where there is plenty of insulin, but the body no longer responds to it.

The purple poppy pays tribute to animals lost in service, and to those who serve us today. 💜

Animals like horses, dogs and pigeons were often drafted into the war effort, and purple poppies can be worn to remember the service of these animals and the lives that were lost.

FIVE critical tips for housing rabbits and guinea pigs safely during winter 👇

🐰 Housing should ideally have some shelter from the weather, such as run covers that can be used to keep the rain off your pet’s home. This may mean moving their hutch to a more sheltered part of your garden.

🐰 During the colder months, make sure drinking water doesn’t freeze, and provide lots of bedding and fibrous food.

🐰 It is important to cover any housing with a blanket or quilt and waterproof materials when temperatures drop – while also leaving space for ventilation.

🐰 Where possible, you should also consider between-wall insulation for rabbit and guinea pig housing to prevent extreme fluctuations in temperature.

🐰 In extreme weather conditions, you should also consider bringing pets indoors.

Any questions? Please to learn more about caring for pets in cold weather.
