Really interesting article and science to back it up!
“one monthly flea treatment for a large dog contains enough imidacloprid to kill 25 million bees.” 🐝 😮 what does this do to the poor dogs body ??
I have been made to feel quite neglectful because I don’t give my dogs flea and worm treatments on a monthly basis.
As the article says we don’t give kids chemicals to prevent Nits…
Some of these chemicals are really toxic, poisoning the environment, wildlife and often our pets too! 😭

Please make educated decisions about your own pet ❤️🐾

Why Do Dogs Lick? 🐶👅

Have you ever wondered why your dog loves to lick everything—especially you? Licking is a natural behaviour for dogs and serves many purposes. Here’s what it could mean:

Affection & Communication
Licking is a dog's way of saying, "I care about you!" It’s a behaviour they learn as puppies when their mum licked them for comfort and care. It even releases feel-good chemicals like dopamine and endorphins, making it a happy experience for your dog. 🥰

Attention Seeking
Dogs are smart! If licking gets a response—like petting or laughter—they learn that it works. They might be trying to say, "Hey, look at me!" or just want some playtime. 🐾

Taste & Exploration
Dogs explore their world with their tongues. Human skin, especially sweaty skin, tastes salty and interesting to them. It’s their way of gathering information (and maybe sneaking a taste of that leftover snack you were holding earlier). 👀🍴

Instinctive Behaviour
Licking runs deep in their genes. Wolf pups licked their mums’ mouths to ask for food, and while your dog doesn’t expect you to regurgitate lunch (thankfully!), the instinct is still there. 🐺

Comfort & Self-Soothing
Licking can help dogs feel calm when they’re anxious or stressed. It’s their way of self-soothing—like how we might hum or fidget.

If your dog’s licking seems excessive, it could be boredom, anxiety, or even a sign of discomfort. A quick chat with your vet might help. 🩺

🚨 Is Antifreeze Dangerous to Dogs? YES, IT IS - Know the Risks and Save Lives! 🚨

Antifreeze is essential for cars in winter, but did you know it poses a deadly threat to dogs? Its sweet taste attracts pets, yet even a tiny amount can cause fatal poisoning. Symptoms can appear within 30 minutes and progress rapidly to kidney failure.

Key Points:

🐾 Why it’s dangerous: Contains ethylene glycol, which is highly toxic to animals.

🐾 Symptoms to watch for: Vomiting, lethargy, stumbling, increased thirst, seizures, or coma.

🐾 What to do: Contact your vet immediately. Don’t induce vomiting unless instructed.

🐾 Prevention tips:
- Store antifreeze securely.
- Clean up spills thoroughly.
- Switch to pet-safe alternatives with bittering agents.

Your quick action and awareness can save lives. Learn how to protect your furry friends from this preventable danger.

🌨️ Is it Too Cold to Walk Your Dog? Here's What You Need to Know! 🐾

Not sure if it's safe to take your furry friend out in the cold? Here's a quick guide for UK dog owners:

Above 15°C: Perfect walking weather for all dogs! 🐕

7°C to 4°C: Safe for most dogs, but smaller breeds, puppies, and thin-coated dogs might need a coat. 🧥

1°C to -4°C: Caution! Limit walks for small dogs, puppies, elderly dogs, or those with thin coats. Watch for signs of hypothermia.

-4°C to -9°C: Life-threatening for most dogs, especially smaller ones, puppies, and seniors. Stick to very short outdoor time.

-9°C and below: Severe risk for all dogs. Keep outdoor time to quick toilet breaks only!

Very rare occurrence in the pad…. These two never share a sofa. Kenzo would love to snuggle up to Skye but shes just not like that… So I was surprised when she jumped up on to the sofa next to him…. If he stretches or touches her … she will probably shout at him 🤣🐾🫣❤️ For now - they look cute and content together and I’ll just cherish this moment 😍🐾🐾

🎆 Help Your Dog Stay Calm This New Year's Eve! 🐾

Does your dog get anxious during fireworks? Mine does too, and I know how hard it can be to see them stressed. That’s why I’ve made this quick video to show you a natural remedy that helps my dog feel calm and even get some restful sleep during noisy celebrations.

In the video, I’ll show you how to make a simple treat using our preferred products:

✅ Delamere Dairy Natural Goat's Yoghurt – Great for digestion and immunity.

✅ Dorwest Herbs Valerian Compound – Known for its calming, soothing effects.

It’s easy to make and a great alternative to prescription medication. Let’s help our furry friends have a stress-free New Year's Eve!

📌 Important: The amount of Valerian Compound I use (5ml) is specific to my dog’s weight. Be sure to check the instructions on the bottle to find the right amount for your dog.

Chocolates 🍫 Day 6 of our festive safety tips: Chocolate may be delicious for us, but it’s a no-go for dogs.

Chocolate is a holiday favourite but is one of the most common toxic foods for dogs. Dark chocolate and baking chocolate are particularly dangerous.

👉 Tip: Store chocolate safely and teach children not to share their treats with pets.

🐶 If your dog eats chocolate, call your vet immediately.

Alcohol & Dogs 🍷 Day 5 of our festive safety series—alcohol and dogs don’t mix.

Alcohol isn’t just bad for dogs—it’s toxic. Even small amounts can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, and worse. Watch out for spills and desserts made with alcohol.

👉 Tip: Keep glasses and festive drinks out of reach and never leave alcohol unattended.
