Bonfire night can be stressful for horses and their owners! 🎇🎆
Things you can do to prepare for bonfire night:
🎆 Find out about any public firework displays that may be planned in your area
🎇Ask neighbours if they are planning on having any fireworks and inform them that you have horses that may be startled by them
🎆Horses are creatures of habit so keep them in their usual routine (stable them if they are usually stabled, leave them in the field if they usually live out.)
🎇Check your stable for objects that may injure your horse if startled and if your horse is in the paddock make sure the fencing is safe and secure to prevent any injury if your horse is panicked.
🎆Playing a radio outside the stable can be a useful distraction and can mask any sudden loud noises
🎇Stay calm around your horse
🎆If someone else is looking after your horse leave them with contact details for you and your vet in case of an emergency
🎇Sometimes light sedation can be useful if horses are particularly startled by fireworks - please contact your vet for further advice !
