Home from Home Hounds

Home from Home Hounds Home boarding for your sighthounds. We specialise in home boarding for your sighthounds and are licenced with the local authority. We love sighthounds.

We realised when we wanted to kennel our own dogs several years ago, a whippet x lurcher and an ex racing greyhound, that most kennel facilities don't cater for the needs of such special breeds. That's when we set up Home from Home Hounds. Having lived with 11 whippets (not all at the same time), an ex racing greyhound, a whippet lurcher and now owned by Alfie our whippet lurcher and Rosie our hai

ry lurcher aka Yeti, we know their traits, their loves and their amazing and special quirks. They are the most amazing dogs. At Home from Home Hounds your hound lives with us in our home. If your sighthound spends all day on the sofa, they can stay all day on the sofa with us, if they sleep on your bed, they can sleep on our bed. We cater for short break stays and longer stays. We are based in Warrington, Cheshire. You can visit us in our home before home boarding your dog, meet us and our hounds. Contact us for more details and rates. We can't wait to meet your hound.

Our beautiful baby boy Alfie grew his angel wings yesterday and crossed the rainbow bridge at the ripe old age of 16. We rescued him when he was probably less than a year old. Found as a stray in Bolton he came into rescue and into our lives as a companion for Genie greyhound. He was so small when we rescued him he could walk underneath Genie who was a small greyhound and grew to be almost as big as her. He was a beautiful boy and loved nothing more than a ball or a frisbee and would carry them in his mouth on long walks, never letting go until he was ready to play with them again. He was an absolute joy and just full of life. Our hearts will always be full of love for him but right now are heavy and broken with the loss of him. We've had a very traumatic Christmas and New Year caring for him. Our enormous thanks to Anita and Mel at Eternal Paws who were so compassionate to the very end. He passed at my mum's and we then took him to Eternal Paws to say our last goodbyes laid on his favourite duvet in a beautiful room full of gorgeous energy and surrounded by crystals and candles. Fly high our baby boy. Forever in our hearts x

Alfie's first hydrotherapy session. He was so good. I thought he'd do the normal sighthound thing with water and go rigid but he didn't. He has arthritis in his hips and spine so helping him build his muscle strength.

My friend is looking for a whippet puppy as a family pet. Any recommendations for well respected breeders, ideally in the North West but not essential.

Little Alfie is 15 now and got arthritis in his hips and spine. We've bought him a dog pram which had its first outing today. He didn't enjoy it and barked the whole time he was in it.

That face. I love her and her hairiness so much.

We booked an off lead secure field last night for the hounds to have a blast. They had a bit of a spurt then just chilled except our Alfie who is 15 and pootled about with his frisbee for the whole hour. He's still active despite his age. Sorry it's a bit of a long video.

This beautiful boy is having his holiday with us. He has had his eyes removed due to glaucoma. He does so well and navigates his way around by smell and sound and the odd bump into things. He's bopped his nose on the whirly in the garden a couple of times but now knows it's there. We need to be his eyes. Dogs never fail to amaze me, they are so resilient. I need to take strength and courage from this boy.

Just a heads up. We're getting full for February and August next year. If you have dates in mind for 2025 we can pencil them in. We have been so busy this year I don't want people to feel let down if we can't have your houndies to stay. We've had to say we're full to so many people this year. If only our house was bigger so more dogs can stay. Having said that there's only so many dogs we can get in bed with us, especially those pesky burrowing whippets!
