“It’s Not Just Hot — It’s Dangerous.”
Heatstroke kills. Know the signs. Save a life.
WET THEN VET
Rapid Cooling Saves Lives
⸻
Important Facts All Dog Owners Must Know:
Dogs don’t sweat – they pant.
But panting isn’t always cooling them down — sometimes, it’s a sign of heat stress or panic. And by the time your dog looks in trouble, it could already be too late.
Heatstroke can be fatal within minutes.
It’s not just about being left in a car.
Only 6% of cases are car-related.
Most are from exercising in warm temperatures.
⸻
Warning Signs of Heat Stress:
• Heavy, fast or panicked panting
• Bright red or purple tongue
• Lethargy or collapse
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Glassy eyes or confusion
• Seizures or unresponsiveness
⸻
What To Do If You Suspect Heatstroke:
ACT FAST — it could save their life.
1. Immerse (not submerge) your dog in cold water — a bucket, river, hose, or shower.
2. As soon as panic subsides, wrap them in wet towels and get to the nearest vet.
3. Keep the aircon on full blast in the car and continue cooling during the journey.
NOTE: For puppies, elderly dogs, or those with health issues, cool them more gently — but still seek urgent vet care.
⸻
Brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds are at HIGH risk.
French Bulldogs, Boston Terriers, Pugs & more
They struggle to breathe efficiently and should not be exercised above 18°C.
Their anatomy (wide tongues, narrow airways, poor cooling ability) puts them at immediate risk in warm weather.
⸻
Final Reminder:
Enjoy the sunny weather — but be heat aware.
If in doubt, skip the walk. Play in the shade.
Cool mats, frozen treats, paddling pools and calm enrichment inside are all better options than a risk you’ll regret.
