We are already seeing lots of lost dog posts that have been spooked by the fireworks. 😢Please keep your pups safe tonight!
If your dog is worried or fireworks are new to them-
* only let them out to toilet in a secure garden
* keep them on their leads when letting them out.
* skip your evening walk tonight
* give them a safe place to hide in the house
* play music to dull down the noise
🎆 Helping Your Dog Stay Calm on Firework Night 🎆
Fireworks might be fun for us, but for our furry friends, they can be terrifying. Here are some tried-and-tested tips to help your dog feel safe, calm, and cared for this firework season 💛🐾
* Create a Safe Space
Set up a cozy den in a quiet room with your dog’s favourite blanket, toys, and treats. Close the curtains, turn on the TV or some calming music, and let them retreat there if they want to.
* Block Out the Bangs
Consider using dog ear protectors to muffle loud noises. Gentle background noise (like white noise or soft music) can also make a big difference.
* Try a Thunder Jacket
A ThunderShirt or snug-fitting anxiety wrap can help dogs feel secure, it works like a reassuring hug and can really ease stress during fireworks.
* Soothe Their Senses
Pheromone diffusers (like Adaptil), natural calming supplements, or vet-prescribed anxiety aids can all help. If your dog struggles every year, talk to your vet before firework season starts.
* Before the Fireworks Start
Take your dog for an early walk and feed them before dark. Make sure their ID tags and microchip details are up to date, just in case they get startled and run off.
* Offer Calm Reassurance
Stay relaxed yourself, dogs pick up on our emotions. Let them come to you if they need comfort, and never punish fearful behaviour. Patience and calm are key.
✨ Bonus Tip: If fireworks are a yearly worry, work on desensitisation during quieter months, your vet or a qualified behaviourist can guide you.
