If you are thinking about buying that loved one flowers for Valentine's Day, we'd strong advise not to buy them lilies if they have a cat. Lilies are highly toxic to cats and cause kidney failure if eaten.

Curly Coated/ Wooly dogs owners listen up! Let’s talk how you can practice good coat maintenance and most importantly why you would want to.

A curly coated dog coat includes the following breeds:
Bichon Frise
Poodle
Labradoodle
Cockapoo

The most important reason of all to brush your dog regularly in between grooms is because we want your dog to have a positive experience with us. If every time your dog visits a groomer and most of the time it is spent being brushed, which can be painful, then it will only cause unnecessary fear and anxiety from your dog. We simply don’t want to inflict brush burn or cause dogs to get stressed from pulling and tugging on knotted hair to untangle it.

Secondly A dog that is tug free can be groomed to the preferred length of a dog owners choosing. To keep the fluffy teddy look that you like it’s essential that is dog is brushed regularly between grooms. A dog’s coat that is not maintained will likely result in a short trim as continued brushing by the groomer will prevent unnecessary pain for the dog and will give the groomer the near impossible task of brushing a coat that has not been maintained for 6 weeks in the short period he or she has to achieve the trim requested.

Brushing a curly or wool coated dog
The two tools that are essential for doing so are a slicker brush and a metal comb.
Brush first with a slicker brush then use a comb. You might also need a matt breaker tool for tails and ears. Before a groomer can trim a dog’s hair it must all be brushed out from the root to the tip. This is to ensure that all the hair is cut at the same length. A good dog groomer will want to give an even trim. If the hair is tuggy in many areas if your dog this will require lots of brushing to make sure all tangles and knots are brushed out before the groomer can start the trim which can be painful for your dog if it occurs on most of its body. Many dogs do not like being brushed especially when they’re not used to it and so a groomer is left with the difficult task of brushing a coat that has not been maintained for 6 weeks in just a couple of hours.

🐶🐾BDG is now working from home! 🐾🐶

I cant thank everyone enough who have helped make my cabin a reality, there has been alot of hard work, especially from Ryan who deserves a medal for all he has done, John, family and alot of favours called in from friends to make this happen. But i am in and working and ready for a busy week ahead.

I have tried to change my address on here so hopefully everyone will know where i am but will also remind people at there appointment reminders for the next while.

I have also made the decision to increase my prices as of the 1st of March and will confirm this with all customers going forward.

Thank you again and will look forward to see all my pups soon! 🐶

Leesa at Big Dog Grooming has groomed all of my dogs. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone 🙌🏼🐾
She was absolutely amazing with my fear reactive GSD Pup, who needed time and patience. So it was a no brainer that my cuddle monster Lenny would become a regular. Even Gamora has been along for a deshedding (and will no doubt be back again before her next blowout.)

A huge thank you to all my customers who have kept me so busy the past year and looks like 2022 is set to be my busiest yet!

To Irene, i can't thank you enough for all your help and support, coffee and banter along the way, here's to my next adventure on my own!

So much to look forward to in the new year including the opening of my home salon which i cant wait to welcome you all to... once its finished 😊

🐾 Fully Booked for August🐾
Can I ask all my regular customers who come in every 6/8 weeks to make sure they are up to date with their appointments, i am fully booked now until the end of September and really don't want to let anyone down if i dont have space.

It is great that i am so busy and I appreciate all my customers for keeping me that way! But I also feel terrible if I have to say no to people so please try and give me as much notice as possible for future bookings and any changes.

As many of you will have seen Irene's post about Doodles Grooming closing in the coming months but dont worry there will be some exciting news to come from BDG, i wont be going far!
