⭐️ ⛄️❄️How to Keep Your Dachshund Safe and Comfortable This Christmas ⭐️⛄️❄️

The festive season is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming for your dachshund with all the new faces, sounds, and smells.

Here’s how to make sure your pup feels comfortable and included in the celebrations:

1. Create a Safe Space

🎄 Set up a quiet, cozy area where your dachshund can retreat if they’re feeling stressed. A familiar blanket or bed so they have somewhere familiar to relax when things get busy.😴💤

2. Stick to Their Routine

Even with holiday plans, try to keep mealtimes, walks, and playtime consistent. A predictable routine helps reduce stress.🦴🐾

3. Introduce Guests Slowly

Dachshunds can be cautious around new people. Let them approach guests at their own pace, and remind visitors to be gentle and not overwhelm them.😘

4. Watch for Stress Signals

If your pup seems anxious—barking, hiding, or pacing—give them some space. Offer reassurance but don’t force them into uncomfortable situations.😬😳

5. Keep an Eye on Doors

With people coming and going, it’s easy for an open door to become a quick escape route. Make sure someone’s always watching your pup, or use a baby gate to keep them safe.💨💨💨

6. Let Them Join the Festivities

Include your dachshund in the fun with a dog-safe treat or a cozy holiday outfit (only if they’re comfortable wearing one!).🎅🏻🤶🏻

A happy, relaxed dachshund makes the holidays even more magical. 🐾✨

🎅🏻Christmas is coming 🎅🏻

What Your Dachshund Can and Can’t Eat🦴

The festive season means delicious food everywhere—but not all of it is safe for your dachshund! 🌭

Here’s a guide to keep your pup happy and healthy during the holidays:

Foods to Avoid:

❌ Chocolate: A Christmas classic for humans, but even small amounts can be toxic to dogs.🍫

❌ Raisins, Grapes, and Currants: Found in mince pies, Christmas pudding, and fruitcake—these are dangerous for dogs.🍇

❌ Onions, Garlic, and Leeks: Often hidden in stuffing or gravy, these can harm your pup’s red blood cells.🧅🧄

❌ Rich or Fatty Foods: Greasy meats, creamy sauces, and buttery treats can upset their stomach or cause pancreatitis.🧈

❌ Alcohol and Caffeine: Keep mulled wine and festive cocktails far away from curious noses!🍷🍾

Safe Foods to Share:

✅ Turkey (Plain and Boneless): A lean source of protein—just make sure there’s no seasoning, gravy, or bones.🦃

✅ Carrots and Green Beans: Great as crunchy snacks or lightly steamed for a treat.🥕🫛

✅ Potatoes (Plain): Mashed or boiled without butter, milk, or seasoning.🥔

✅ Dog-Safe Holiday Treats: Look for Christmas-themed biscuits or chews specially made for dogs.🦴

✅ Peanut Butter (Unsalted and Xylitol-Free): A small dollop can be a tasty treat!🥜

⭐️Golden Rules:⭐️

🐾 Always check food labels or ask your vet if you’re unsure.

🐾 Keep plates, leftovers, and bins out of reach to avoid accidental snacking.

🐾If family or friends want to spoil your pup, give them dog-safe treats to hand out.

Enjoy the festive season knowing your dachshund is safe, happy, and maybe even nibbling on their own little Christmas feast!🎅🏻

🐾Why We Do What We Do at Daxie Den 🐾

It all started with Ruby, our gorgeous long-haired dachshund who brought so much love and joy to our family. Her charm sparked a deep love for dachshunds not only within our home but also among our friends. 🥰
In fact, Ruby has inspired so many families to consider adding a dachshund to their lives—especially longhaired ones! 🙌🏻

But back then, we noticed a common challenge. Many of our friends hesitated to get a dachshund because they didn’t have a reliable place for their pup to stay while they went on holiday. 🛫🏖️
We started small, looking after a dog here and there for friends. Then came the friends of friends, and before we knew it, Daxie Den was born.
We got our license, decided to give it a real go, and now, 17 months later, we’re so proud to have a wonderful little pack of dogs who see us as their second home—not to mention the amazing owners we’ve met along the way!💓

We’re honest people, and the truth is, not every dog has enjoyed their time with us. Building trust and confidence takes time for some, and in some cases, our service just isn’t the right fit. Some dogs may need extra training or care, and we’ll always be upfront about that. Our priority is the dogs’ wellbeing. If we can help, we will—if not, we’re happy to recommend other places or professionals who can.🐶

At Daxie Den, it’s all about the dogs. We’ve even helped people who aren’t part of our pack because we believe every dog deserves the best. Sometimes it’s about learning their unique language, showing patience, and taking the time to understand them. Once we do that, we’re off to a great start.🧡🤍🧡

❓🐾Who We Are🐾❓

We’re proud, crazy dachshund parents who are completely obsessed with sausage dogs…. Literally! 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏼‍♂️

As experienced owners, we’ve built a safe, loving, and fun home where every dachshund feels like part of the family.🐾💓

With training in dog first aid and behavior, we understand the unique needs of dachshunds and are dedicated to making sure they’re happy, healthy, and comfortable while they’re with us.

We also collaborate with trainers to ensure every pup gets the very best care and attention.😇

When it comes to boarding, we truly love what we do. 😍
Getting to know our guests is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.
Building strong relationships with your dachshunds—and you—is so special to us.

There’s nothing quite like seeing our guests light up when they return to stay with us for their holidays! 🥹💓🐾

We make it our mission to create a home away from home where every sausage feels loved and secure.💓🏡

At home, we have three little “baby sausages” of our own, each with their own unique quirks, needs, and personalities. They remind us every day how special dachshunds are, and they’re a big reason why Daxie Den exists! 🥰

We’re so grateful to our current pack of amazing dogs and their owners—you are the heart of Daxie Den, and we couldn’t do this without you. 🧡🤍🧡🤍

🌭🐶As we look forward to 2025, we’re thrilled to open a limited number of spaces for new pack members. 🌭🐶

If you want your pup to join the sausage squad, please reach out 🙌🏻

With love,

The (totally dachshund-crazy) Daxie Den Team🐾🌭🏡

🐾 How to Approach a Dog Safely 🐾

At Daxie Den, we’re all about creating safe and positive experiences for both dogs and people!

Approaching a dog the right way can make all the difference in building trust and avoiding misunderstandings.

Just because a dog is super cute, doesn’t mean you have the right to touch it. Especially sausages, as who doesn’t love a sausage dog!

Here’s how to do it:

1. Ask Permission 🙋‍♂️🐶:
Always ask the dog’s owner if it’s okay to approach. Some dogs might be nervous or in training, so it’s best to check first!

2. Approach Calmly 🚶‍♀️💤:
Walk up slowly and calmly. Sudden movements or loud noises can make dogs anxious.

3. Let Them Come to You 👃🤲:
This helps them feel comfortable and in control of the interaction.

4. Avoid Direct Eye Contact 👀🚫:
Staring directly at a dog can feel intimidating to them.

5. Pet Gently 🐕💖:
Once the dog seems relaxed, pet them gently on their shoulder or chest, rather than reaching over their head, which can feel threatening.

Following these steps makes for a friendly, safe encounter—and helps dogs feel more comfortable meeting new friends! 🐾

🐶 At Daxie Den, we’re here to support positive connections🐾

🎆 Bonfire Night Survival Guide for Your Dog 🎆

Fireworks can be stressful for our furry friends, but a little planning can make a big difference. Here are some tried-and-true tips to keep your pup calm and cozy this Bonfire Night:

1. Create a Safe Space: Set up a quiet, cozy area where your dog can retreat. Add their favorite blankets, toys, and maybe even a piece of your clothing to make it feel safe and comforting.

2. Block Out the Noise: Keep windows closed, and play calming music or white noise to help muffle the sound of fireworks. There are even playlists specifically designed to soothe dogs!

3. Stick to Routine: Feed and walk your dog well before the evening events begin. A consistent routine can help them feel more secure.

4. Stay Calm: Dogs are sensitive to our emotions, so if you stay relaxed, it can help them stay calm too. Avoid fussing over them too much, as it can reinforce anxiety.

5. Consider Calming Aids: For extra-anxious dogs, calming sprays, treats, or even anxiety vests can help. If you’re concerned, talk to your vet about additional options.

6. Distract with Treats or Toys: A long-lasting chew or a favorite toy can keep their mind busy and provide comfort.

Bonfire Night doesn’t have to be a nightmare for you or your dog. With a few small adjustments, you can make the evening a little less “boom” and a little more “bliss” for them! 🐾🎆

🍂 Don’t Toss That Pumpkin Away—Share It with Your Pup! 🎃 🍂

Did you know that pumpkin isn’t just a festive fall decoration—it’s also a powerhouse of nutrients for our furry friends?

Here are some reasons why a little pumpkin can be a big treat for your dog:

1. Tummy Tamer:
Pumpkin is packed with fiber, making it great for both constipation and diarrhea. Just a little can help regulate your pup’s digestive system, keeping things smooth and comfortable.😮‍💨

2. Loaded with Nutrients: Pumpkin is rich in vitamins A, C, and E, as well as potassium and iron. These nutrients support your dog’s vision, immune health, and overall well-being.🙌🏻

3. Low-Cal, High Flavor: For dogs watching their waistline, pumpkin is low in calories but big on flavor, making it a healthy snack option that won’t add to their calorie count.🦴

4. Easy on the Tummy: Pumpkin is gentle on sensitive stomachs, making it ideal for pups who need a little digestive boost or are prone to tummy troubles.🤭

Our resident dogs always have pumpkin power everyday to keep them in top shape 🎃💪🏻
