Our next popular herding workshop is taking place on Saturday 15th June 2024 from 10am to 1pm at Springwood Junior School, Waterlooville 🙂
With many herding breeds now living in urban environments as pet dogs, they often do not have an outlet for their natural breed instincts, which can result in behavioural problems including traffic chasing, reactivity, repetitive behaviours and environmental sensitivity to name a few. Learning how your herding breed works and how you can use their breed instincts to give them a job to do can give them a happier, more fulfilled life and in turn prevent behavioural problems from arising.
During this 3 hour workshop we will cover:
🔹What is herding?
🔹Breed specific traits and behaviours
🔹Why behavioural problems can occur in urban herding breeds
🔹The pitfalls of ball throwing
🔹Breed specific activities
🔹The herding game
The herding game is a fun game using balls to represent sheep and provides a fun outlet for your herding breed's natural instincts - no sheep required!
Within the herding game we will cover:
🔹Handler skills
🔹Directional movements - come by and away
🔹Building speed and distance
🔹Stopping on cue
🔹Changing directions
Certificate of attendance included upon workshop completion. Includes digital workshop manual with all the content and training exercises covered.
Dogs must be over 6 months old, be able to work off lead around other dogs/people (we work one dog at a time) and have no health issues that affect their mobility, as the herding game can involve tight turns and rapid movements.
We have spectator places available for these workshops as well as handler places, making them ideal for people who have dogs that cannot cope in a class environment but want to learn how to work with their dog at home.
Handler places limited to 5 dogs (up to 2 handlers per dog). Dogs must be able to settle during the theory part of the workshop (approx. 30 mins) or be comfortable being left in the car when not working. The grounds are secure, and the gates will be locked during the workshop.
A big congratulations to our newest UK Sniffer Dogs tracking workshop attendees, who started their tracking journey today on our series 1 workshop! You all did an incredible job, with some amazing tracks, even with barely any/no food on the final track! 🥳 Looking forward to seeing you back for series 2! 🐾😊🏆🐶

Due to someone moving classes, we have a place available in our Thursday evening UK Sniffer Dogs gold continuation class starting from Thursday 6th June 2024 at 7.30pm each week. The course starting on Thursday 6th June 2024 will take place over 7 weeks, as there will be no class on Thursday 4th July 2024 due to the hall being used for the general election.
The classes will consist of 6 week blocks. The first course you attend will be slightly more expensive at £90 as it includes the continuation classes workbook with the grade criteria, which will be stamped off as and when you achieve each criteria. Subsequent courses will be at the usual course rate of £80 for each 6 week block. Any criteria you achieve will carry over from course to course, even if you take a break for a course.
The UK Sniffer Dogs grades consist of a bronze, silver and gold award, each containing 6 grades, which can be worked on simultaneously e.g. you can work across the levels and grades at the same time. For example, one week we may work on gun oil, which would fall under the silver award but another week we may work on Kong, which would fall under the bronze or gold award. Each time you meet one of the criteria, we will stamp it off in your workbook. When you have completed a grade, you will receive a certificate of completion; if you complete all 6 grades in the level, you will receive a special award. You do not have to complete the grades in order either (this will make more sense when you see the criteria)
As mentioned above, you can take a course break when needed and return to a future course (availability permitting) and all of the criteria you have achieved so far will carry over. I will check towards the end of each course whether you will be attending the next one to get you booked in so I know whether anyone from the waiting list can be offered a place.
Criteria for the awards covers exercises such as:
🔹Bag, chair, novel, vehicle, person, water and active searches
🔹Timed searches
🔹Indication duration
🔹Indication distance
🔹Negative hides
🔹Undisclosed numbers of hides
🔹Inaccessible hides
🔹Buried hides
We will also run mini competitions within the courses.
The link to book on has been added to the website at https://k9klass.co.uk/uk-sniffer-dogs-scentwork. If you are an existing Sunday continuation class member or have been taking a break and want to book this place, please message me, as I will need to set up a different booking form for you for the follow on course rate.

At K9 Klass we are dedicated to helping you teach your dog the skills and behaviours required to live a happy, enriched life, via puppy classes, training courses and workshops held at our venue at Clanfield Memorial Hall, Waterlooville. With indoor and outdoor facilities, we have the best of both worlds when it comes to training your dog!
We pride ourselves on using up to date, reward based, force free methods, taught by experienced and qualified dog trainer Juanita Rogers KCAI (CD), IMDT, BCCSDip.HthNut.
Our courses and workshops are designed to keep dog training fun without any pressure of having to undertake exams or assessments in order to move to the next level. Too many people become trapped in the cycle of "what do I need to pass?", "how many pass marks do I have outstanding?", "when am I going to do what I have left to pass?" and lose sight of why they started training in the first place - to have FUN and learn with their dog!!
We have dog training classes and workshops to suit all dogs and owners, ranging from puppy training, intermediate and advanced classes, dog behaviour training, specialist workshops and gundog classes.
We also run UK Sniffer Dogs classes, workshops and trials at our second venue at the Wickham Centre, Wickham, Fareham.
