We will cover:
Loose lead walking - with lots of advice on the equipment that you can use.
Recalls - its the biggest freedom we can give our dogs, but they must be listening to you first.
Basic social skills - how to be handled, groomed, checked by your Vet etc.
Sit quietly while you chat or clear up
Lie down quietly when you ask them to - dinner time for instance
Good manners around other dogs and people.

This introductory course is held once a year and can fast track you into the Walkabout Way group - so ideal for the young puppy or new rescue.

Special offer price of £100 for 4 weeks training - so dont miss out!
This is usually £285 which includes a 121 session but as we will run small classes, you will still get all the benefit of our instructors knowledge, gained by working with dogs for the past 40 years.

We are located on the South Downs National Park between Petersfield and Portsmouth and have our own outdoor training centre here.

Is your dog bored?

Of course not, Carol. He/She has lots of toys and a good hours walk a day. And he plays, in the garden and his mates when out and about.

Ah yes but do you play with your dog? Not just training but play? I know you have been busy but, hello, your dog either has nothing to do or too much.

If you have no recall, your dog pulls on a lead, paces all the time or is destructive, barking or worse, then they are bored and trying to make themselves feel better. Either way, they could be struggling and although many accept their situation, is that really why you got a dog? Everyone is talking about mental health issues now, and our dogs help us but we must help them too.

Obviously you need to train your dog but it always helps to improve your bond first. Since we got Buddy, we have put training in place but never let him off lead outside of a secure venue. Now we can, because we have played with him and taught him boundaries.

At we share ideas with you to make your training easier. With lots of things to do, we show you how to get your dog focused on you. We cover lots of scenarios and practice safely but you have to put the time in at home. Then your dog will want to be with you and enjoy your company. So why not join us? April is the perfect month to start and for this month only, you can claim your 10% discount off website prices.

Our Story

Back in 1997, the Walkabout Group was established to help dog owners with all aspects of caring for their dogs. At that time, we ran a successful pet food distribution business and supplied and worked with over 170 pets shops and many breeders and dog rescues.

As a dog trainer and behaviourist, I wanted to move away from that side of the business so established a dog walking and cat care business and worked with local Vets to create the ideal one stop place for our pet owners in the local area. Over the years we trained and supported many people who also went on to establish their own businesses helping dog and cat owners.

We developed a unique way of helping dogs by using our very experienced teaching dog pack, who taught dogs and their owners in a way that everyone understands. This took time, but was worthwhile and again a number of colleagues copied our ideas and were fairly successful. Unfortunately, as our pack got older, it became clear that we had to adjust our teaching and move back to a more conventional way, so looking at the whole picture, we started to develop the Walkabout Way.

This involves showing and helping the owner to train their dog to suit their own requirements. Using the knowledge we gained from our dogs teaching, we are able to guide each individual owner to help their own dog. Although we do offer some group walks and meetings, most of our work is more suitable to 121 help, so that the correct training is given and adapted for each person. Demand for this is high, so we only take on specific cases, but no one is ever turned away, so do get in touch to discuss and lets see how we can help.
