Recalls.
How many times do we get our dog to return our dog to us? Put them on lead and go off somewhere with them under control?
How many times do you call your dog reward them and then send them off to play again ?
What does a recall mean to your dog?

This Saturday afternoon we have another of our popular workshops designed to help owners improve their dog’s behaviour. This week it’s all about the recall.

If you’re needing help with getting your dog to come back when called, why not join us for some useful tips and a chance to practice in our secure training area here in based between Petersfield and Portsmouth.

This has nothing to do with the camera!

It sounds simple but one of the best things I did to take photo's of my hounds was to teach them the wait command, it means I can move away from them a little. Some dogs will take a bit more patience of course, but if you can master this, you will see such a difference in your photos!

Does your dog already know this?? Is it something you want to teach them?

Lovely example of two dogs sorting their differences out in their own way.
Watch how “play” helps them to understand where each dog is in the family. Their body language is lovely and soft and fluid and we stood back and watched them. It’s times like this when we are proud to . Leo has only been here since last Tuesday afternoon and now living his best life.

Our Story

Back in 1997, the Walkabout Group was established to help dog owners with all aspects of caring for their dogs. At that time, we ran a successful pet food distribution business and supplied and worked with over 170 pets shops and many breeders and dog rescues.

As a dog trainer and behaviourist, I wanted to move away from that side of the business so established a dog walking and cat care business and worked with local Vets to create the ideal one stop place for our pet owners in the local area. Over the years we trained and supported many people who also went on to establish their own businesses helping dog and cat owners.

We developed a unique way of helping dogs by using our very experienced teaching dog pack, who taught dogs and their owners in a way that everyone understands. This took time, but was worthwhile and again a number of colleagues copied our ideas and were fairly successful. Unfortunately, as our pack got older, it became clear that we had to adjust our teaching and move back to a more conventional way, so looking at the whole picture, we started to develop the Walkabout Way.

This involves showing and helping the owner to train their dog to suit their own requirements. Using the knowledge we gained from our dogs teaching, we are able to guide each individual owner to help their own dog. Although we do offer some group walks and meetings, most of our work is more suitable to 121 help, so that the correct training is given and adapted for each person. Demand for this is high, so we only take on specific cases, but no one is ever turned away, so do get in touch to discuss and lets see how we can help.
