What a sight! 😍

7 pairs of oxen took part in a very unique festival to celebrate our summer harvest!

A herd of ox-carts ceremoniously lead a procession from the main Bhaktivedanta Manor building to Holland Farm. The main cart escorted the utsav (festival) deities of Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda, which was tailed by hundreds of devotees singing kirtan! 🎶

Holland Farm, on the far western part of the Manor’s 78 acre estate, is the base of the Manor’s horticultural project. Many different vegetables, herbs and fruits are organically grown there. 🌱

It was truly a day to remember!

Saints and cows traverse these holy lands, creating a spiritual atmosphere like no other.

Srila Prabhupada explains “the perfection of one’s occupational duty, whether in the sphere of duty to oneself, one’s community or one’s nation, is judged by the degree to which the Lord is satisfied (ŚB 3.2.32), and the Vedic scriptures clearly explains the importance of caring for cows, an act that is most pleasing to the Lord. ♥️

The special cows of New Gokul Farm were greeted by His Holiness Keshava Swami, who reminded us of the importance of cow care.

Devotees of Krishna care for cows as they are revered as motherly figures according to Vedic literature, providing nurturing and sustenance to humanity. This practice embodies the principles of simple living and high thinking, fostering compassion and respect for all beings. 🌿✨

“That picture, Kṛṣṇa, He’s embracing the calf. He is not only embracing the gopīs, but He is embracing the calf also, cows also. Sama-darśinaḥ. For Kṛṣṇa the gopīs, the calf and the cows, or anyone in Vṛndāvana who has come to serve Him, they are all equal to Him. Somebody wants to serve Kṛṣṇa as calf, somebody wants to serve Kṛṣṇa as cow, somebody wants to serve Kṛṣṇa as gopī, somebody wants to serve Kṛṣṇa as cowherd boy, somebody wants to serve Kṛṣṇa as His father, somebody wants to serve Kṛṣṇa as His mother. These are the different mellows, different taste. Every living entity has got his own taste, how to love Kṛṣṇa. But the central point is to love Kṛṣṇa.”

Nandini’s eye has been causing her problems for a little while now. Today she was lucky enough to be seen by none other than David Williams MA MEd VetMD PhD DECAWBM(AW) CertVOphthal CertWEL FHEA FRCVS!

David is a highly respected senior in the field of animal ophthalmology, and we are grateful he could pop down to New Gokul Farm to check up on Nandini’s eye. With a treatment plan in place, we’re confident Nandini will feel much better soon enough!

Festival Highlights! ☀️

The festival to celebrate the release of our herd into their pasturing fields was truly a beautiful occasion!

Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda & Srila Prabhupada left the sacred temple room and boarded Their ox-pulled carts to make Their way to the sanctuary, known as New Gokul Farm. They oversaw the entire festival, as Their cows came running out in excitement to see lush green grass after many months inside.

Please note: if the weather conditions are not suitable, this event may be postponed

‘Go Mochana Utsava‘ means ‘the festival of letting the cows out’. After a long winter stay inside the barns, the cows and oxen will be released into the fields and pastures. Their Lordships Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda will be gracing everyone with Their presence, coming all the way from Their altar just to see Their favourite cows and enjoy the spectacle of seeing them leap with joy and stretch themselves after their long winter months inside the barns.

9:15am – Radha Gokulananda Vihara Yatra (Deity Procession starting from the Temple Room)

9:40am – Swagata Seva (Welcoming the Deities to the Goshala)

9:45am – Navanaivedya Seva (9 bhoga offerings made with Goshala milk)

9:50am – Arati Seva

10am – Pravachan

10:15am – Go Mochana (Letting the cows out)

10:45am – Prasadam Seva (Refreshments)
