So this is Pumpkin, she's only about 4 weeks old and shouldn't be away from Mum just yet π
Unfortunately she was found out in the daytime yesterday wandering around on her own. Luckily her finder Josie knew immediately that she needed help, scooped her up and took her to a Vet. After a check over for injuries she was told to take her back where she found her and release her (π please no Vet bashing they honestly thought they were giving the correct advice, it's all about experience and knowledge and many Vets have no specific hedgehog knowledge at all, so I will be reaching out to the Vet in question to see if she would like more information). Fortunately for Pumpkin, Josie felt uncomfortable about the advice and contacted me straight away.
Once at the rescue I checked her over myself and she was absolutely freezing cold and had four raised marks across her back that indicate she was picked up by another animal. No obvious puncture wounds but I will be monitoring that closely. She spent the night being rehydrated and gently warmed up and this morning was ready for her breakfast as you can see β€οΈπ¦β€οΈ
With all the sad news recently from not only Hoggieworts but around the country I thought you all needed cheering up. This is little Henry, usual story out in the day but luckily for him he was spotted by a lovely couple Thomas and Lizzie who knew immediately that he was in trouble, scooped him up and contacted me. Thanks to volunteer driver Jacky Mobbs who drove over to Northampton to pick him up and bring him to the rescue π
Henry was and still is, a very poorly little boy with some nasty internal parasites including Fluke and Coccidia but as you can see he's feeling a little brighter and is enjoying his biscuits. It's still early days for him but hopefully he now has the strength to withstand his treatment that can be very hard on one so young. It's so very important that once they show themselves in the daytime they are taken to a rescue without delay, it quite literally can be the difference between life and death. Come on Henry you've got this π€π¦π€β€οΈπ€

It's taking him a while but he's getting there β€οΈπ¦β€οΈ
This is Roscoe, another small juvenile, extremely cold and dehydrated, found in the middle of a sports field by some lovely children who knew exactly what to do, well done lads you are a credit to your parents. Into the incubator for you little man after he's had some fluids of course π¦β€οΈπ¦
I love to see hoglets that have been so sick start to develop and practice their nest building skills β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ Makes all the sleepless nights worthwhile π¦ππ¦
Something to make you smile on a Monday, ever seen a hedgehog dreaming?
This is little Khaleesi (I think her finder was a Game of Thrones fan π
)
I have some extremely sad news to share with you all πππ
This is when I question the fact that I microchip the hedgehogs that are released from the rescue and wonder if I would be better not knowing.
Some of you will remember this little lady, Sue. She came into the rescue nearly 4 months ago now shaking uncontrollably and extremely poorly. Well she made a full recovery and as you can see from the video below she was a spectacularly beautiful hedgehog. 11 weeks ago she gained her freedom and was released into a lovely quiet village garden supported by Louise and Dave. Early this morning I took a call from Louise who had some bad news for me π₯ A hedgehog had been run over in the village, so with a heavy heart Louise brought the hog to me for identification. I was holding my breath when I was scanning for a microchip, even though any loss is devastating, to lose one who has already been through so much is unbearable. My heart sank when I heard the familiar beep of a microchip being found π₯π₯
I'm so sorry Louise that you have lost this beautiful girl but thank you for the support you are giving to all of them π
RIP Sweet Sue, run free my lovely π¦ππ¦π₯ππ¦
A joy and a relief when babies finally start to feed themselves β€οΈ Below are 4 of the babies currently in the rescue. Margie, Rosemary, Lavender and Basil came in when their Mum was in an RTA. Such beauties and very orderly and dignified, well at least in this video but give it 5 minutes π€£π€£π¦π¦π€£π€£

Not a very clever place to sit Mr Frog π
All 4 babies doing well β€οΈ thanks to Jackie at Wild About Hedgehogs for taking up the reigns with these prickly gherkins whilst I'm taking a much needed break. What would I do without you π thank you π¦β€οΈπ¦
Three in a row, although you can't see the one in the middle because it's sitting in the bowl π€£π€£
Well I guess that's one way to hog the food (π€£π€£ sorry couldn't resist) and stay safe as well, clever little Hoggie ππ¦π
Newby Tyson is extremely thirsty bless him. Please don't forget our wildlife this summer, shallow bowls scattered around your garden or even on your driveway could save a life πππ¦π¦ππ
