You will sometimes hear rescues talk about a hedgehog being wobbly and it can be distressing to see them in this state. The hedgehog below came in yesterday but sadly has since passed away. Wobbling and shaking like this can be caused by many things including head trauma, poisoning, MBD, encephalitis, infection etc but by far the most common causes seen in rescue are dehydration and hypothermia. A hedgehog in this state is critically ill and is in need of urgent intervention, the clock is ticking and every minute counts. If you see a hedgehog in this state please scoop it up, place it in a strong highsided box, provide an old towel or shredded newspaper for it to hide under and put the box somewhere warm. If possible fill an old pop bottle with hand hot water, wrap in an old tea towel or t-shirt and place in the box with the hedgehog ensuring there is enough room for the hedgehog to move away from it if it becomes too hot and contact a rescue immediately π¦ππ¦
New arrival Mr Wobbles, bet you can't guess why the finders daughter gave him that name? Mr Wobbles was found yesterday on the finders drive way shaking and wobbling and knew she had to get him to rescue straight away. Within minutes of picking him up he was with me, thank you Tanya and Willow π He was icy cold, dehydrated and is so underweight his shoulders and hips are sticking out. He has swollen and scuffed feet and infected ringworm on his face and belly and that's just for starters poor boy. After spending the night in intensive care and having two hourly warmed subcutaneous fluids and some antibiotics for his infected ringworm he's enjoying a bit of Brambles for his breakfast. He's done some horrendous poos but so far nothing has shown up under the microscope so I will continue testing. For now he's ok but it's early days, send him your love and healing thoughts guys π¦π€π¦
Ralph say's Merry Christmas and thank you Mandy Foster π¦β€οΈπ¦
A really big heartfelt THANK YOU to all of my supporters, foster carers, vets and of course my friends and family. I may be at the sharp end BUT without you guys it would be impossible to run the rescue. I want to mention each and every one of you but I am terrified that I will miss someone out so this thank you means YOU π«΅ β€οΈβ€οΈπ¦π¦β€οΈβ€οΈ
Happy Christmas and a fantastic New Year

Good evening everyone, hope you've had a good day?
The Nest Guest from Cosy Cabins has arrived for us to evaluate. I say that because although we have become an affiliate partner with Cosy Cabins we need to be confident that the product performs well before we can recommend this nest box to you guys as I'm sure you will understand. Unfortunately for you guys you will have to put up with me talking at you for a couple of minutes but just be thankful you don't have to see me as well π€£π€£ NO HEDGEHOGS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS VIDEO π¦π¦π¦π¦
So this is Pumpkin, she's only about 4 weeks old and shouldn't be away from Mum just yet π
Unfortunately she was found out in the daytime yesterday wandering around on her own. Luckily her finder Josie knew immediately that she needed help, scooped her up and took her to a Vet. After a check over for injuries she was told to take her back where she found her and release her (π please no Vet bashing they honestly thought they were giving the correct advice, it's all about experience and knowledge and many Vets have no specific hedgehog knowledge at all, so I will be reaching out to the Vet in question to see if she would like more information). Fortunately for Pumpkin, Josie felt uncomfortable about the advice and contacted me straight away.
Once at the rescue I checked her over myself and she was absolutely freezing cold and had four raised marks across her back that indicate she was picked up by another animal. No obvious puncture wounds but I will be monitoring that closely. She spent the night being rehydrated and gently warmed up and this morning was ready for her breakfast as you can see β€οΈπ¦β€οΈ
With all the sad news recently from not only Hoggieworts but around the country I thought you all needed cheering up. This is little Henry, usual story out in the day but luckily for him he was spotted by a lovely couple Thomas and Lizzie who knew immediately that he was in trouble, scooped him up and contacted me. Thanks to volunteer driver Jacky Mobbs who drove over to Northampton to pick him up and bring him to the rescue π
Henry was and still is, a very poorly little boy with some nasty internal parasites including Fluke and Coccidia but as you can see he's feeling a little brighter and is enjoying his biscuits. It's still early days for him but hopefully he now has the strength to withstand his treatment that can be very hard on one so young. It's so very important that once they show themselves in the daytime they are taken to a rescue without delay, it quite literally can be the difference between life and death. Come on Henry you've got this π€π¦π€β€οΈπ€
