It's been a very strange reopening this week.
Right at the start of lockdown, when we had to close, I had the idea that we would reopen soon enough and we could maybe have a bit of a reopening barbecue party, maybe some drinks and life would return to pretty much how it was, fairly rapidly.
WRONG! I wrestled with the idea of reopening over the past few weeks of being closed. The balance between being financially viable yet still able to open and function safely. In the end though it's been a practical need to reopen, to begin to look forwards instead of just trying to speculate. Preparing new procedures and protocols has also been a huge part or reopening. One way system, contactless payment options and enhanced biosecurity are all very easy to overthink and before you know it you've filled your head with doubts.
But here we are one week in and it's been great to see clients coming back and the stables come alive again. The horses are all coping well coming back into work (read as; not bucked or bolted yet) and our helpers are all doing well sticking to guidelines and our new measures.
It's been the softest reopening I ever could have imagined but it gives all of us a good chance to make sure it's done right and I feel that will give us the sustainability the business needs.
We are getting loads and loads of enquiries from new clients ,but at this time we just can't relax our measures enough to cater for them. I hope we can one day soon relax these measures enough so more people can enjoy what we we enjoy doing.
This week is very restricted due to family obligations but next weekend still has spaces available.
I look forward to seeing more of you all soon.
Stay safe.

It has been a long time since I've posted.
It's been a long time closed down, but we are pleased to announce our reopening from Sunday 2nd August.
I have a couple of bits to run around and get in motion, shopping for stuff I've overlooked!
In a very strange way it's been much harder to reopen than it was to close down. So many things to take into consideration and plan for, yet it's very easy to overthink things and get your knickers in a twist.

It's going to be a very slow reopening with hacking and enjoying the countryside being the main exercise for the horses. The horses have all had a very long furlough and some of them are fairly portly and they are all needing to fitten up gradually.

For this first month or so I will only be able to have existing clients riding. But this will change as soon as the small arena is finished.

New measures that we have adopted, to help protect everyone are;
Only riders are to enter the yard.
Entry is only through the side/alleyway entrance and the exit is the main gate.
Feel free to use any of sanitizer stations as much as you like.
All payments prior to riding are in the office.
One person in the office at a time.
Details for BACS payments will be posted. Cash/cheque payments are accepted but please follow instructions in the office.
We cannot hire hats at the time being.
Own riding hat, gloves and a face mask (for close contact safety checks) are mandatory.
Please don't enter any inside area of the stables unless given the all clear.
The toilet will be locked and a key is available. The toilet will need to be locked after use and sterilised before being used again, so bear in mind that it may not be immediately accessible.
All tack will be sterilised, between riders, by staff at the stables.
All touch points will be sterilised every day as often as possible, doors, bolts, stable doors and so on.

There are a lot of things that we normally do that we just can't start back up for a while yet.
Pony parties are not available
Pony hours are not available for novice/beginners.
Lead rein lessons are off at the moment but I'm hoping that we can restart those before the other listed activities.

Our RDA Wymington group have not restarted yet and I believe it will be a long time before they are able to operate their groups.

The short of it is we cannot do activities that require equipment sharing or prolonged close contact.

Each week I will post the days that we will be open. These will vary as I plan on opening on the days when Vicki isn't at work. Saturday and Sunday will always be open and Monday always closed, those days are kind of written in stone!

All of these measures will take time to get used to and will have a direct impact on how many lessons/hacks that we can do in a day. Booking has always been on a first come basis and it still will be. There is, for the first few months, very limited availability but this will increase as the horses and ponies fitten up and we can increase their workloads.

Last but most definitely not least,

If you have even one mild symptom of Covid 19 please call and cancel. There will be no charge, I would thankyou for thinking of everyone else's safety and health over your desire to ride.

My apologies for the long post but it is vital that we do all we can to reopen, even at a much reduced level for a while, safely.

I look forward to seeing you all soon.
Leigh and Vicki

Pictures are all from our closed down time. Theres loads of them
Enjoy

Two months!
At least the horses are happy. It was Tegans birthday last Wednesday (20th) and Vicki promised her a sit on Frankie.
Of course the windy weather during the week put a big no way to sitting on a pony that's not been ridden for two months.
So today, sunny and peaceful it was the perfect time for Tegan to cash in on Mums promise.
Even Vicki got on Zarca for the first time in months!
Body protectors were in use though, just in case it turned into KABOOM at A when you only wanted to trot. Very quiet riding with just a bit of trot for horses that have become very used to being field ornaments.
I would like to thank everyone who has continued to support Manor Farm Riding Centre during the course of this pandemic. I really hope we will all see the safe side soon.
Stay safe everyone.
Leigh

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well.
With the slightly confusing and lessening of lockdown measures I'm sure a lot of you are wondering if we can reopen.
The short answer is, not just yet.
The long answer is fairly complex.
In order to open and trade we would have to introduce social distancing measures and a strict biosecurity protocol.
Biosecurity would mean deep cleaning the yard, all touch points as well as the loo. Grooming kits and stable tools too.
All tack used would need to be disinfected between each use and hats would no longer be available to hire.
All clients and staff would need to wear gloves, possibly masks too and handwash stations would need to be present at all entrances to the yard.
Even with these in place the government guidelines about social distancing means that we would be restricted to one on one lessons or hacks or familial groups of two persons only.
So with the costs of bringing the stables back up to a working yard, farrier, vet checks and insurance changes , along with introducing biosecurity measures it all adds up to a fat chunk of money.
The limited earning potential due to social distancing makes this incredibly difficult to achieve. There is also the possibility of stricter measures being reintroduced and having to close down again.
Financially this would be horrendous for us.

To make sure we can open safely and at a sustainable level we have took the decision to remain closed until we are confident we can keep our clients safe.
Hopefully it won't be too much longer and we can all enjoy the horses again.
The horses are doing really well by the way. These recent temperatures are ideal for them.

It's going to either be incredibly fun or scary bringing them back to working levels!
