As Memorial Day draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on the history of Nene Court and honor those brave individuals who served during World War I.

Our site once played a critical role as a Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) hospital, known as the Wellingborough Gas Works Hospital. This hospital treated over 1,200 soldiers wounded on the front lines, offering them much-needed care and recovery.

Central to this story is Sister Adams, a compassionate nurse who moved from London to lead the hospital. Her dedication was unparalleled; she worked tirelessly alongside other volunteers and staff to provide care to the soldiers. Sadly, Sister Adams contracted the Spanish flu from one of her patients and passed away just three days before peace was declared, a heartbreaking end to a life of service.

Also part of this effort were the brave Wellingborough machine gun team members who received treatment here in their hospital uniforms. These soldiers, who risked everything, remind us of the courage and resilience that marked those days.

As we walk these grounds, let’s remember Sister Adams, the soldiers she cared for, and all those who served with unwavering devotion. May we carry their legacy of compassion and strength in our hearts.

Bella Barista is a family run business which was established in 1983. Renowned worldwide for its high-end domestic coffee machinery and famous locally for its organic, speciality coffee roastery.

We have some exciting opportunities. While previous experience in coffee is not essential, we would like to hear from you if you have had previous experience in coffee or have a passion for coffee. The roles will be part-time which will include a Saturday. Key duties will include bagging, packing and dispatching our speciality roasted coffee and also working in our coffee showroom. Full training on all aspects of our coffee business will be provided.
