If you’re looking for a brightly coloured native plant to cover your pond liner edges or provide shelter (and possibly a stepladder) for young frogs and toads, we can recommend the golden form of Creeping Jenny (Lysimachia nummularia ‘Aurea’). Happy to grow submerged or in damp soil, yellow flowers are a bonus that makes this species useful for pollinators too.

Have you been in to check out our new inhabitants?

Martin and Sheryll made the journey to our colleagues at Cadbury on Tuesday to pick up the final line-up of koi for the display pond out the front. To say they are large is a bit of an understatement....

The line-up has ended up being:
2 x Showa
1 x Asagi
1 x Sanke
1 x Goromo
1 x Shiro Utsuri

All of which will be available for sale in the coming weeks. Our smaller inhabitants won't be for sale just yet (there's a Chagoi in there Martin wants to see fully grown 😬)

In the meantime they'll be resting up in the Feed the Fish pond. Whilst in there we ask visitors to please not touch them or the water - this can cause them health issues as we don't know what's on your hands (you also don't know what's in our water, and let's face it..... there's fish poo in there!)

Struggling with pond algae?
Green water/algae is often caused by over feeding and fish waste. It is unsightly and can be dangerous as it may alter the pH and oxygen levels. It can also harm your plants by outcompeting the plants for nutrients. At Maidenhead Aquatics we have an excellent range of algae treatments; some work by actively killing the algae and others work by stripping out nutrients. Decreasing your waters phosphate and nitrate levels will also help with unwanted algae growth. Available in-store and online.

We're finally full!

Wednesday saw the final fill of our new display pond, we'll allow it to run for a couple of weeks before we gradually start the exciting process of stocking it with some koi (some of which we'll be inheriting from our colleagues at Maidenhead Aquatics Cadbury).

Thursday, Paul installed the little Swimskim that could (an OASE UK Swimskim 25) to get the surface nice and clear of any floating debris and foam.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mbu Puffer, Buster.

On Monday morning the team came in to open the shop to see that, Buster, after 11 years of being with us, had passed in the early hours.

He will be greatly missed, as he was a favourite to everyone who shops with us.

Our Central American tank has come together quite nicely.

We currently have a group of Emerald Catfish (Brochis Splendens) and one our favourites the Blue Eyes Panaque (Panaque Cochliodon)

We are currently awaiting delivery of some rare livebearers (Ameca Splendens) and wild green Swordtails.

Owen has been talking about getting these Checkerboard Cichlids (Dicrossus Filamentosus) into the high tech set up for weeks.
He finally got the change of putting them in there yesterday and they compliment the tank so much!

Martin got very excited this morning to find the male Pinocchio Whiptail Catfish (Hemiodontichthys Acipenserinus) holding eggs in his mouth!!

The female will lay the eggs ready for the male to pick them up in the fold of his mouth which will provide the eggs with ventilation and will hold them for 12-14 days.

Fresh Fish Delivery!

Tuesday night we had our first fish delivery in 4 weeks, some exciting species have arrived from, Danios, Dwarf Gourami's, Dwarf Cichlids, Rice fish, Cory Dora's and Many More!!

All to be expected available for sale next weekend!!

Our Red Breasted Cichlids (Cribroheros Longimanus) have bred on our system!!

This species are originally from Central American, they can be found in lakes and rivers in Costa Rica, Honduras and Nicaragua.

There natural habitat consist of fast flowing waters where the bottom is strewn with pebbles, wood or leaves carried by the current.

Unfortunately this specific pair are not for sale and will be going into a future Central American scape we have planned :)

Owen Mercer has been hard at work over the past 2 weeks to get this tank set up, hardscape previously designed by Danny Potter.
There is no current name for this set up so comment below and give us some ideas!!

This is currently set up in an OASE UK Scaperline 90 with 2 Fluval 3.0 Plant Lights.
We are running an Oase Biomaster 650 as filtration.
A Columbo Co2 cylinder and a Oase crystalskim 350.
