was back in store yesterday to complete the stocking of the South American display, mid filming we were honoured to meet David, who decided to stop in on his way to visit Plymouth all the way from New York, USA!

Not 24 hours before he had been watching Part 3 of the build and couldn't pass up the opportunity to see the shop in the flesh - just happening to time it right to meet MD himself (and our very own "Discus Lady" Sheryll).

returned on Tuesday for the introduction of the first fish to the middle display tank - a HUGE shoal of Black Phantom tetra, a decent group of Angelfish and a stunning High-fin Green Phantom Plec (who has done what all plecs do and disappeared into a hidy hole somewhere)

Forget spring cleaning, this is the best time of year to give your pond an overhaul. It’s not too cold yet and the life cycles of fish and wildlife are at a point where serious disturbance can be avoided. If you don’t fancy playing in the mud, a pond vacuum will help with sludge removal while keeping you clean and dry. little and often vacuuming can save a lot of work with hands-on cleaning. With large fish in the pond it also reduces the loading on the filtration. For the seasonal clean-outs there’s nothing to match the convenience.

If you’re looking for a brightly coloured native plant to cover your pond liner edges or provide shelter (and possibly a stepladder) for young frogs and toads, we can recommend the golden form of Creeping Jenny (Lysimachia nummularia ‘Aurea’). Happy to grow submerged or in damp soil, yellow flowers are a bonus that makes this species useful for pollinators too.
