The barefoot journey
Our gorgeous Scooter Anna from British Colombia, has taken the time to write these inspirational words:
“I wanted to transition from metal shoes to barefoot a while back. As I wanted my horses feet to be as naturally strong and healthy as possible, and they live in pastures that don’t require shoes. Most of the training I do with them is in soft sand or grass pasture. So it was worth giving it a go.
Burdock has pretty much always been barefoot, no problem for this wild born mountain horse. I was told that Tanner might not be happy barefoot, but he transitioned so well very quickly. The longer journey was with Stella. The first year I gave up and got her shoed again. The next year I ended up switching farrier as I needed a second opinion. And with trims every 2-3 weeks for a few months, as well as letting her wear her boots in the pasture if needed, and rest from training, her hooves started to shape up and transform. They now are stronger and healthier than they ever were before!
My horses are on a 4-5 weeks schedule for professional trims. And I have learnt some basic stuff so I can go in and give them a touch up if needed in between.
As soon as I ride somewhere with sharp rocks or hard ground I put on I did lots of research years ago and decided that these boots will be a great match for the riding I do. I’m very happy with them! I used a heat gun to adjust the shape of the heal parts to my horses shape. I’ve taken them on rocky mountain trails, through water, mud and sand. Fast canters. And arena work.
The size needs to be correct, so you’ll need to measure the hooves when they’re freshly trimmed. And you can order test shells for sizing.
I was so happy with the boots that I became an ambassador for the brand after a few years. So if you wanna try these boots out, use my code “ANNALENGSTRAND” for a discount through their main website. Again, I wouldn’t be able to keep my horses bare feet if it wasn’t for the use of boots.”
