RIDING HATS, nothing more precious than our little ones heads and given the pony rides have started this weekend I needed to ensure we are fully equipped and we could not have better protection than from Charles Owen the team were amazing with the 3 under 3 today, all coming away with professionally fitted helmets with their wide range of makes, models and fits and one for myself coming in the post. Huge thank you to Jade for being absolutely amazing with them they were so happy 😀

A year today we made our journey to Alderhey for Elysias reconstructive scull surgery, the most terrifying time of my life that made that lump in my throat come back today when I realized the date, thanks to Alderhey she is doing amazing!

The large one is back in business, dad and I collected him on Tuesday, he’s made his presence heard and today the 💨 and 🌧️ wasn’t gona stop us, I pulled me brave pants up, got Mildred to head in my direction after work if she hadn’t heard off me in case I needed scrapping up off the floor but he actually let me get on fairly successfully and was good, some entertaining rodeoing in canter but all is well, now for him to get up those hills hacking for the next few weeks

Nice day training with Tabby & Raff, albeit a stressful trip on my accord 😂

Raff really surprised me he’s been tricky since just before Christmas with his very touchy sensitive way of going he gains in the winter but he was fab actually taking the bridle forward and not dropping behind, must have been auntie Lesley’s treatment on Monday …
Tabs was good, Jon may send video when he returns lol

A little about me if you are new to my clinics -
I am a Mum of 3 beautiful children and own a yard in Trewern where we house around 15 horses, some my own, others on assisted livery or full livery and horses to stay for schooling, producing, sales and competition horses.
I have over 20 years experience with many different horse, produced various horses up through the levels as well as rode the older horses that started with other riders.

I have competed up to 3* Advanced British eventing inc long listed for the 3* Europeans, I enjoy producing the horses through BD and BS in between event seasons and in my youth attended many Pc and RC championships at open level.

I have been teaching since young instructors days in PC and helped many riders reach their goals aswell as producing riders based with me up to 3* Eventing and my eldest daughter up to Pony trail 2* by the age of 14 which is a prestigious achievement that only approximately 25 young riders in the country achieve each year.

I hold the prestigious Pony club A TEST which is equivalent to the BHs stage 4 and I hold all the relevant insurance and certificates.

Calcourt is an incredible venue for my clinics and have proved popular so far, payment before the day secured spot.

All horses attending must be up to date with vaccinations and on site rules must be followed.

Look forward to seeing everyone again and hope we remain lucky with the weather

I am still in shock that we stayed dry at my Calcourt clinic on Saturday, it seems there was rain all around us but we had another great day with more technical lines made look easy by all.

We have a MARCH DATE… Saturday 22nd

Last Thursday Duke and I contested our first medium test at BD, after producing a good elementary test albeit really feeling the cold chill. We now have our 3 elementary scores so will concentrate on riding a better Medium, I was a little behind producing some movements so moral of the story “must do better” …

Saw this little diagram on FB and thought it’s a great save for making the difference movements clear from a birdseye view for clients

Dave went home this morning following his weeks holiday schooling livery, so he was worked before his 9am pick up and has enjoyed a much deserved afternoon in the field after a really good week working on his suppleness, I then got to meet Danni’s lovely new TB for a lesson at lunch and it’s a thumbs up from me.
Mission Tonto pamper day resumed in between riding a few more and then I tried hard to learn tomorrows Medium test on Duke which I kept going wrong but Duke felt fab and then back to teaching tonight followed by Tonto meeting his little person 🥰

Needed…

Been off to dressage this am, failed to get completely mucked out as well as all plaited up and unfortunately with a change of weather horses have stayed in so what stayed behind and was mucked out will need doing again 🫣

Tabby was flat today after yesterday at Somerford bless her so albeit more good behaviour she wasn’t the judges favorite today and foxy was marginally well behaved, stood in the lorry quietly with Jackson which always helps when your solo and although came out like a wild Bambi she went off and settled, a couple of rude moments in the test but she hasn’t been off the yard in some time so pretty pleased to just survive lol

Me on the other hand is just desperate for bed after 2 days in the lorry, it zaps me driving especially when I haven’t been out and about very much over winter

Lovely day spent at somerfordparkofficial with Sarah Yorke on a Jon clinic. Both 5yo were absolutely perfect, for their first insight to XC, Tabby owned by Liz Morris is the most perfect little Irish draft, she really has been so delightful but soon she will be looking for a new 🏡 , first I will enjoy adding experience to her CV

Behind the ears of the king 👑
Iv cried and cried a bit more this morning because today was Tontos first ride after 22 weeks out and he feels better than ever, happy tears and sad tears… if only he was a little bit younger for us to have a little more time on the big stage with him but we have been so incredibly lucky to have him in our lives 😘

My 3rd Horsey child Quinn, now a rising 5yo… she’s looking super after spending 6weeks in the field so I could have some Xmas down time, looking forward to really getting her going now, she did plenty of hacking at the end of last year and minimal arena time but first day back in and she’s like a seasoned pro

Also this happened on Monday…

Quickie my cool little homebred who I was enjoying clinics on last year had an unfortunate mishap whilst being an escape artist and broke his pedal bone, the fracture was unclear on the first x ray so following numerous abscesses it became evident there was a fracture the body was trying to remove, following much stress and heart ache knowing surgery is beyond my profit margin and my own horses are not insured Simon came up with a plan and some how removed a large piece of pedal bone through standing surgery, he is a very talented vet. So a few more weeks box rest and an abscess in the heel Mr Quickie finally seems comfortable and the foot is dry so after such a long time on box rest he deserves nothing more than a month out with his little brother before hopefully being able to start ridden work again 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 huge thank you to Simon for your efforts, much appreciated Lower House Equine Clinic

DAVE arrived this morning whilst Owner Connie is on Holiday so we were straight to work, I have been helping Connie with Dave’s retaining so it’s great to finally ride him and feel what our nexts steps should be, but to be honest he is exactly as I thought and again proves what a lovely genuine TB who just wants to please, as you can see he took a few attempts to find his feet but once he worked it out he really found the spring in his step

Test run on fergal whilst Dani is on a course, Dani and Ferg have spent the depth of winter with us to make things easier for Dani when she’s working lots of long night shifts, they head home this Friday so last spin and he’s feeling good,

Why Winter Turns Horses into Wild-Eyed Spook Machines (and How to Survive It)

Ah, winter—crisp mornings, cozy blankets, and your horse turning into a wild-eyed spook machine. If your usually calm equine companion is now acting like every leaf, shadow, and sound is a direct threat to their existence, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Horses tend to feel extra fresh this time of year, thanks to less turnout, more stabling, and all that pent-up energy.

But don’t panic just yet! We’ve got you covered with insights into why this happens and, more importantly, feeding tips to help keep your horse feeling good—and keep you in one piece!

💡 Top Tips:

✅Feed Rowen Barbary Acti-Soothe to protect the stomach, reduce stress, and support digestion.
✅Try Solution Mash for slow-release energy, low starch and sugar, and a cereal-free, gut-friendly diet.
✅Stick to a consistent routine to keep your horse calm and focused.
