Milestone for 4yo Luna this morning, you may remember I brought her in few a few weeks before Christmas to desensitize her and long rein her up and down the roads and through floods before riding her up and down the indoor barn and turning her back out for winter, I then brought her back when Saskia came for work experience so that I had someone on the floor to help me on and be around if I needed, she’s been so easy and chilled that when Alice finished her work experience time and started working for us I handed over the reins, at only 4 she only does once or twice a week for f she’s really lucky 3 times a week but is just hacking and has had 3 short canters in the arena, today she loaded straight on the lorry for the first time since she made the journey over from Ireland as a feral 2yo to be a companion to my homebred. She travelled perfectly and was perfect all morning trotting around the entire 30cm XC course having only jumped 1 x pole at home, she had Daisy and Elysia for moral support but trotted away from them with no worries in the world. She really is a pony that’s been here before, exciting times ahead for this exceptionally well bred Connie who may be up for sale or lease until Elysia is big enough for her lol in the mean time Alice is having lots of fun and first times producing Luna

Whilst listening to the road rally go past as they head up the hill for some trail parts to their competition and I gargle mouth wash to numb my throat that is on fire and along with my swollen glands it’s evident saturdays event has taken it out of me. 3am alarm clock again but the long drive was easy at that time in the morning, my stomach was doing summer-salts once I had completely dressage, Gus did a nice accurate test but was back to mouthing the bit after a change in his normal routine this last week, our prep has been off sink after a foot infection and I felt under prepared but he still completed our second event and his first 100 with a storming clear XC, felt good show jumping just unfortunately had 2 poles, glad I didn’t drop him down he loved it.

RAF felt Devine dressage for a 27.3 but the harder I work on the show jumping with him the more pressure I put on myself so I made a very rooky error of just going to the first fence instead of showing him the marquees ect and he slid straight into the first fence with his eyes on stalks at the tents ahead, a quick trot down to see them and then start again and albeit tense over first few he settled really well and jumped incredible, he felt like we were finally getting in the air and all legs were working in sinc, we were so delighted with him, then the stomach started doing flips, Raff last did his first 100 4 years ago, the day before a broke my shoulder, so much has happened since then and Raf has been far more tricky than he was back then too but we have come away feeling like a proper partnership this weekend, he ate the course up, he was brave bold and loved oxstalls_xc I feel like the step up has happened at the right time and we can hopefully now really enjoy the rest of the season. When I crack this show jumping we are going to be mega 😬 albeit today’s round not sounding great he was a different horse.
Couldn’t have done it all without Millie, Sass and mother sorting everything out at the show and Alice looking after the yard at home it been a busy few weeks, think everyone needs a rest but no gaps in the windows yet šŸ™ˆ hope my throat passing quickly to continue the mammoth teaching

No placings this time but a very happy Team Hillside !!!

Thank you sponsors Rowen Barbary Horse Feeds the boys enjoyed their sports mash before home time.

Chillington … what can I say šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø
Let’s forget I rode and just went to a jolly good event to catch up with my wonderful eventing family ( something we rarely get to do now we have no local events)
We’ve missed you Dave Thompsons nd thank you richard_connelly for not calling me all sorts down the Tanoi 🫣 thank you all for a great event and to my support crew coming to watch me make a t*t of myself, I’m not dwelling on it I promise…
Sometimes we have good days and some days are not worth remembering but I’m glad I showed up after a pretty rotten week.

Raff has done a total of 10 events in his 5 years in work, this year is going to be tough, he’s a challenge and he makes me ride terribly sometimes but I love him and I will continue to try my best to work him out, what doesn’t break you makes you stronger right?
P.s I cantered past the second to last xc fence so Raff was clr whilst I was NOT
