The lovely Trixie came in this week for her 2nd vaccine with our nurses.
She was such a good girl and got looks of cuddles from our nurse Kirsty.

Today we say good luck to our Head nurse Lorna who has been promoted to practice manager!! You will still see her around the practice but she has taken on a non-clinical role.
Lorna has been a nurse at the practice for over 7 years and will be very much missed on the clinical side.
We wish her good luck in her new role and a massive congratulations!

Last week we had the lovely Marilyn Bunroe in for her Spay.
Rabbits going under anaesthesia is higher risk than a dog or cat but spaying her can reduce certain illnesses and it means she can live happily with her companion.

☘️🌿Plants🌿☘️
Are the plants you have in your garden and house safe for your pets?
Lots of people forget that plants can make our furry friends very unwell.
The HTA have worked with animal poisons line and have make a list of all toxic plants and what symptoms they may cause.

🪳 Flea treatment 🪳
Did you know certain dog flea treatments (which have permethrin in) are extremely toxic to cats.

If you have accidently given your cat a dog permethrin flea treatment you should seek veterinary treatment as soon as possible as this is classes as a medical emergency.

☠️Xylitol☠️
This is a sugar replacement that is most commonly in chewing gum. It is also in other food products as a sugar replacement.
If you have seen your pet ingest any chewing gum this is classed as a medical emergency and veterinary treatment should be given as soon as possible.

Kayro came in this week to get his nails clipped.
He hadnt had them done before so our nurse Shanaya used positive reinforcement with treats to make his first experience enjoyable.
He was a very good for everything and enjoyed his treats.

☠️Beta Blockers☠️
If you or a family member are taking beta blockers and you think your pet has consumed them you need to contact your vets straight away.

There are lots of other medications including ibuprofen that are toxic to animals.
If you have any concerns please contact you vet.

☠️Blue-green Algae☠️
This can be found in contaminated water such as lake and ponds.
Dogs can get very ill including having neurological signs and liver damage.
If you think your dog has been in contact with blue green algae please contact a vet as soon as possible.

☠️ Cat poisons ☠️
Any parts of lilies are very toxic to cats.
If you cat has ingested any parts of the flower they should be seen by a vet as soon as you are aware.

💻Online Booking💻
We do now offer a online booking system. We would only recommend using this for routine appointments such as booster vaccines or health checks.
If your pet is unwell it is best to call us and our team will be able to assess your pets situation on an individual basis.
If you would like to use the online system please make sure we have all up to date details including email and telephone number on our system as that is how they are linked.

Bella came in this week to have her fractured canine removed which even had pulp exposure which can be quite painful! 🦷
We hope she feels alot better now that Leonie has taken it out and is on the mend!

🦷 Albie came in this week for some dental treatment. 🦷
He had a scale and polish with Manuel.
Look at those pearly whites now!
Did you know dental problems, if left untreated can have the potential to cause other issues such as problems with the heart.

Did you know we offer CT scanning?
The lovely Sable came in recently needing dental treatment.
For gold standard we did a CT of Sables whole mouth to check the roots of all the teeth.

🪥🦷Dental procedures 🦷🪥
We do a lot of routine dental work within our practice from scaling and polishing to extracting teeth.
We use a lot of different equipment during these procedures.
Here are some photos of what we use including our dent unit, scaler, polisher, extractors, dental probe and a type of elevator used to help remove teeth.

If you think your pet has bad breath, dropping food when eaten, facial swelling or seems painful when eating they made need some dental treatment.
You can call or book online for a dental check and one of our vets or nurses can advise what is best to do.

Do you know how to spot blue-green algae?

Exposure to blue-green algae can cause long-term health problems in pets and can even be fatal. By drinking from or swimming in contaminated water, pets are at a high risk of becoming seriously ill.

Over the summer, our vets see a lot of dogs who have issues because of grass seeds. It is important to contact your vet immediately if you suspect your dog has an injury caused by a grass seed.

If walking your dog in long grass or woodland areas, we recommend checking your dog over and brushing away any grass seeds after the walk is done. Pay particular attention to paws, ears, eyes, and armpits.

Do you have questions about neutering your cat? It's something we strongly advise as it has many benefits for them and helps to tackle the number of stray cats in the UK.

Female cats will benefit from reduced risk of unwanted pregnancy, certain health conditions and even certain types of cancer. For male cats, neutering reduces their urge to fight other males, lessening the chance of certain diseases, and it also means they are less likely to mark their territory around your home.

MEET OUR PETS!
Today we would like to introduce Manuel’s dog Gaspar.

Gaspar (or Casper for his English friends) is an 11-year-old golden retriever. He was adopted in Portugal at 12 weeks old and has loved adventures ever since. Five years ago, he even moved to UK! Even though he's older now, he still enjoys his walks and loves swimming in the ocean or any pond he finds. His favorite toy is a monkey stuffed animal. He loves being around people and brings joy to everyone he meets.

Pets can develop skin allergies at any age, so it's important to make sure you know the signs and symptoms. Dogs may start scratching excessively, whereas cats may start licking their belly, back, or behind their legs more than usual.

The most common skin allergy is called atopic dermatitis, and although it's a lifelong condition, it can be controlled and managed, meaning your pet can lead a normal and healthy life. Treatments may include medication, supplements, or even newer monoclonal antibody treatments.

The law is changing - from 10 June 2024, cats in England must be microchipped and registered on a database by the time they’re 20 weeks old. The penalty for not microchipping your cat could be a £500 fine. A microchipped cat has a much higher chance of being reunited - please microchip your cat.
