What a fab idea for a retirement gift. And such a feel-good portrait to draw too! As Chair of our local Canoe Club, Dawn spends many happy hours on the water with Bear and this is truly a fitting tribute to her long term commitment to the club. Happy retirement Dawn! Hello! Hope you’ve had a lovely summer? This boy has taken a good few hours of summer sketching in my free time. A Swaledale Ram. I like a fun little project in between commissions and when the light evenings are perfect for drawing. Lots of texture to play with and soft muted tones for this one. Drawn in coloured pencil on hot pressed paper, 12 by 8 inches.

It’s nearly here! The Lady Bay Arts Festival Weekend is on 18th and 19th May. My lovely local community will be hosting artists of all kinds to show, share and sell their work. It isn’t very often I show a work in progress on here. I don’t have a website, so I tend to use facebook to show finished portraits. It’s nice to share the process though, so here’s one at roughly halfway point. I’m right handed, and start at the left side and work to the right. Why? Well drawing is quite a slow process of layering and I worry about smudging my work with my hand! Lots of soft ear fluff to go with this smiley boy.

Happy Friday everyone. This is ‘Lola, Ruby and Dora’, three generations of Labrador family. This portrait commission was in part a memorial to Lola (on the left). I worked from separate photo references to draft a composition that brought her together with her daughter and granddaughter, side by side.

It’s National Labrador Retriever Day! And as a Lab mum I can tell you they are the best dogs! (Casper would be very upset if I didn’t say that!) Here’s a peek at the beginning stages of a big triple Labrador portrait commission from December 23, which I’m looking forward to sharing soon. I’ve just had a lady take 5 bookmarks to give instead of Christmas cards. Another brilliant idea for a more sustainable Xmas! Large enough to write your message on the back, easy to post and will hold your recipe book, diary and reading book pages for years to come. Genius! My customer chose Thrush in Mistletoe for a seasonal greeting - there is Owl, Heron and Gull too, with satin ribbon and cello wrapped. £1.75 each plus UK 80 pence postage. Any 5 bookmarks for £7.50. Another Festive Festoon! This collection of traditional hanging garlands now includes the Tawny Owl and Yew. Symbols of wisdom and long life, with a sprig of lucky evergreen to greet the New Year. This makes a gorgeous seasonal decoration or a thoughtful, reusable greetings gift instead of sending a card.
I also have the ever popular Stag with Holly sprig 🦌 or Thrush in Mistletoe, all from my original drawings. ✍️

3 steps to commission a portrait from me! It’s easier than you might think.
1. Choose your preferred size. Most people go for A4 (8” x 12”) which starts at £175.
2. Send me your lovely reference photos so we can decide on a nice one. Photos on your phone are fine.
3. Pay 50% to book (PayPal or send direct) and that’s it!
You’ll receive updates from me as I draw until your beautiful unique art work is complete.

Twit Twoo! 22 hours drawing, and many coffee and chocolate breaks to keep my focus on all those feathers! I just need to finish off that gnarly old stump and then this Tawny Owl will be complete. ⭐️ SOLD⭐️ An original pencil drawing of two little turnstones. Such a common site on our beaches and coastlines, these busy bodies scurry along, dodging the waves on their bright orange legs. Whenever I get time between commissions, I love drawing the wildlife I see on my travels. ✏️
