Beginners dog training classes on Tuesday evenings in Tarbrax Village Hall, EH55 8XE. Fun, motivational training, teaching vital life skills such as loose lead walking, food manners, handling for examination, recall, social skills, and how to avoid lots of common problems with your dog before they start.

Last night we worked on self control around tempting foods! This was challenging for the dogs but they did very well so well done to the dogs and owners. This exercise helps with real world situations like table manners both out and about and in the home, which prepares the pups for summer day trips at cafés and picnics. Well done everyone!

One of our trainers Jess was competing at Lanarkshire CTA Obedience show yesterday with her Australian Shepherd, Morgen (who many of you have seen in class). They finished 2nd place in Novice in a class of very talented dogs and handlers. Jess has been working hard with Morgen and their hard work has paid off!

It's important to recognise stress signals in your dog and try to avoid putting them in situations that can overwhelm them. This ladder of communication can be applied to interactions with other dogs, all types of animals and humans (adults and children). Learn to recognise the signs and become an advocate for your dog. They depend on us to manage a lot of their environment, so we need to step up and help them stay safe and comfortable.

Jess is running her popular trick training course again, beginning on 18th May in Tarbrax Village Hall, EH55 8XE. A six week course covering various tricks from intermediate to more advanced skills. Limited space available on this course.

Group classes are ideal for pet dogs who are looking to build on life skills such as recall, lead walking, manners and controlled socialising with other dogs, amongst many other useful training skills. Here is a handy visual guide to help you regularly assess your dog's body condition score and adjust feed and exercise accordingly. Remember, successful weight loss is part feed reduction, part exercise increase, and doing both will work best if possible.
