Dougal had a difficult morning today having wee teenage tantrums before we set out for our 1st walk.
However, by the time we got to Skills Club today, he was in a much happier frame of mind 😀.

He seems to absorb everything that we have done far.

We have always had a large family of rescue dogs. One thing we love them to have is freedom to roam in safe places. In order to strengthen their recall, it works well if we keep them within a reasonable range and have them engage us when required.
One way to achieve that is to establish a "wait" command and use it regularly on walks.

As you will have seen recently, our little #foreverhounds rescue dog Dougal from Bosnia has been building up his skills every day.
From street dog to ambassador in a few weeks 😁.
He took part as demo dog in his first ever group puppy class today and rocked it after a cautious start.
Here he is today performing a wee demo in front of the other people and puppies. What a wee smasher 😍😍

On Sunday we finish up last year's Puppy, Intermediate Skills Courses as well as our Skill's Club.

Dougal had his first snow day experience today. He had an absolute ball!
Unfortunately the snow in the park was a little bit deep for team Dachshund 🤣
It was too wet,dark and windy today to record Mr Dougal at work, so here's a clip from yesterday.
We are always keen for our doggies to walk nicely on their leads, and this is how I like to start the process.
With trailing line or completely off lead in a safe environment , I like to develop engagement and establish the required position and reward lots of stops in position.

Wee Dougal had his first real walk today!
Up until today we have been acclimatising Dougal to his immediate surroundings. We have a mountain of work to do in order to build his confidence up. We literally have to show him everything that we will encounter in the outdoors.
He's already 5 or so months old and has had previous life experiences. I'm guessing he had to be feral for a while and fend for himself in the streets and hills of Bosnia.
Every day he gets a little bit more curious and a little bit more energetic as he builds up strength and confidence.
This is Dougal in the bing doing recalls in a very quiet space.

Meet Jeff!
In our intermediate classes, we help you channel the energy of your dog and put it to good use.
Jeff here has bags of energy and sometimes doesn't know what to do with it. In this session we can see the way Jeff learns to focus on me and what I'm asking him to do.
Initially he's really bouncy, then as he gets his focus, manages to walk past a huge distraction at close range.
With repetition, this would gain a lot of strength and become much easier.
