Cat Grooming.

Thought I'd let my cat clients and future cat clients know a little bit about why I got into cat grooming and my experience.

I grew up with cats basically, I wasn't allowed a dog 🥲🤣

I worked as a zoo keeper in Edinburgh Zoo from 86 to 96. During that time I did get experience working with the big cats.
My favourites were Snow Leopards and Persian Leopards, the fleas weren't so much fun.
Snow Leopards were so talkative, I couldn't get enough of them.

The only cats we were allowed in with were the Cheetahs and Lynx, probably changed days now though.

I eventually got into vet nursing, which was my dream, after a stint of training to be a dog groomer.
I found that I loved working, hands on, with cats. I didn't have the fear that a lot of my colleagues had 😈 and I just love their characters and probably the fact that they are unpredictable.

When I fell back into dog grooming, I decided, after being asked if I groomed cats, I'd give it a go, and found I still loved working with them.

Cat grooming is completely different, it's risky, unpredictable but I love it when I eventually win their trust.
It takes years of experience. It's finding the balance between not being too confident but not having any fear, they can tell....these guys are psychic 🤣.

I don't advertise, generally it's all word of mouth.

Cat grooming is also different from dog grooming in that it's not about aesthetics, cats don't care for that, it's about coat management and making them feel better.

A lot of cats are bred now with a lot of fur, they can't look after it themselves and cats being cats, they really don't appreciate their owners brushing and combing them.
So that's where I come in.
Some cats can have quite greasy skin and fur, this can often lead to matting, bathing can help alleviate that.

It's also important for older cats too, we can spots things that maybe the owner hasn't noticed, older cats can sometimes have overgrown nails which can often grow into pads. We can find lumps and bumps too. Then we can the advise a vet visit.

Cant believe its nearly 2 years since i closed shop and started working from home. Its made a huge difference to the qaulity of my life and i feel my dog and cat clients are happier in a smaller space with no distractions.
The cats certainly like watching the birds feeding on top of my kennel.

Time to review my business, including pricing, which I haven't done for a while.

Looking to see what I can add to the business, ie if anyone has ideas of anything they'd like me to add?
Ie skin treatments, mud bath and Ayurveda (more on this later).

The cat side of my business will be changing and reviewing my pricing, having so much experience with cats and it being a specialist area, my prices will need to reflect this. Taking into account that if bitten, I could easily be off work for weeks.

I am also 55 this year so I need to look at better ways to work and have lot of rest and fun too.

Last working day of the year for me.
Back open 3rd January .
I will however be spending some time getting everyone's appointments in for 2025.

I just want to say a big thank you to all my clients for continuing to use my services and that I appreciate you all very much, I love working with your dogs and cats and very much love what I do.

I hope you all have a fabulous Christmas and a great 2025.

So this is home and soon to be my new office 🙂 We also have a wee shop in the village hall, in carpark. Photo in comments. It's only open on certain days and times, but you can grab a coffee/tea and a cake.

Another one of Loki before his bath, he won't even look at me, he's disgusted at me for clipping his bum. You can tell by the tail his slight annoyance 🤣
