This cute little girl is Peach!
She spent some time with us at the surgery recently to be spayed.

Cats often tolerate pet shirts better to cover their surgical sites rather than a collar, so we always try to use the least stressful method for our patients 🥰

CREATING A DEN FOR YOUR PET

🐾 Place the den in a room that is quiet, calm and can be darkened.

🐾 Choose a pen or large box that can be enclosed to create a safe space. Collapsible dog cages are ideal as you can place covers over the top and sides.

🐾 Place a soft, comforting blanket or bed in the den.

🐾 Spray the surrounding covers and bedding with a dog or cat specific calming pheromone spray to help reduce anxiety.

🐾 Make this space a positive place for your pet to go by putting their favourite toys and treats in there.

🐾 Place a bowl of water inside or just beside the den.

🐈PHEROMONE THERAPY🐩
Some animals will require additional help to make them feel more at ease during firework season.
❓How do pheromone products help❓
They are essentially 'comforting messages' that provide a sense of safety and security for dogs and cats.
This is similar to the calm feeling kittens and puppies have when nursing from their mother.
✅There are different products for cats, dogs and small animals, and they come in a variety including:
🐾PLUG IN DIFFUSERS - choose a room that your pet spends most of their time in, or the space where their 'den' is going to be during firework season.
🐾 COLLARS - these have the benefit of travelling with your pet wherever they go!
🐾 SPRAYS - Useful for applying to bedding and crates.
🐾WIPES - These can be useful for small furries and usually come in individual packets.
🐾 ORAL MEDICATION - Certain calming products can be given in food and come as tablets or capsules.
All of these products are best introduced prior to firework season, so they have more of a chance of working.
If you would like more information, please feel free to ask for advice at the surgery 😀

CREATING A SAFE SPACE FOR YOUR PET
🐾 Chose a quiet room that your pet can retreat to.
🐾 Use a collapsible crate or box and put cosy bedding inside that has a familiar scent. Cover the top of the crate with towels or sheets to make it darker.
🐾 Cats may feel more secure in an igloo-type bed.
🐾 Provide some tasty treats in the crate.
🐾 Make sure the curtains/blinds are shut so the flashes of fireworks are hidden.
🐾 Put the radio on in the background to help muffle the sound of fireworks.
🐾 Use a calming pheromone product, either as a diffuser or spraying your pet's bedding beforehand.
