If you are waking up to smelly kisses from your dog or cat, let that be your wake-up call! Bad breath is caused by harmful bacteria in your pet’s mouth and can indicate that dental disease is taking hold... Other symptoms might be harder to spot depending on how cooperative your pet is.

Could your pet be suffering?

Keeping your dog's teeth clean is important, as ignoring it can lead to plaque build-up and dental problems. Dental disease is very common in dogs, second only to ear infections, and can be extremely uncomfortable. Whilst it's fairly common in older cats, younger cats are also at risk too.

Common dental issues
Bad breath
Tooth damage: Broken, loose, or discoloured teeth
Bleeding gums: Inflamed or bleeding gums
Pain: Your pet may whine when eating, spit out food, or have a painful mouth
Swelling: Swelling around the mouth or below the eye
Drooling: Uncharacteristic drooling
Chewing: Your pet may chew on one side of their mouth, or chew less in general
Appetite: Your pet may have a reduced appetite or have a hard time chewing
Pawing at face: Your pet may paw at or rub their face
Nasal discharge: Your pet may have nasal discharge and sneezing
