Calling all ferret owners! 📢

Our furry ferret friends can sometimes suffer from adrenal disease, which can be pretty serious if it is left untreated. Symptoms include aggression, a swollen abdomen and increased drinking and urination.

If your ferret has these symptoms, it’s best to get them checked. There are different causes of adrenal disease, and these can be discussed with our vets in more detail. 🩺

Whilst it might not be adrenal disease, it’s better that they get checked out so that they can be treated appropriately. Get in touch with us if you’re worried about your pet!

Can small furries eat meat? Well, that depends on the species. Rats enjoy protein-rich foods eg cooked egg or lean meat, so adding a small portion every now is good for them. Gerbils, hamsters, and mice can eat small amounts of protein too. Chinchillas are herbivores and should never eat meat.

If you have any questions about what type of balanced diet to feed your small furry pet, give us a call on 0208 979 1384

During winter, cats seek out warm, covered spots for shelter, and they will often crawl into our cars' engine bays or wheel wells.

As you can imagine, they can get seriously hurt if the car is started!

To protect them and other animals who may seek refuge from the cold and the rain in car engines, please remember to:

⚠ Take a quick look under your car and on the wheels for hidden animals

⚠ Tap on the bonnet and honk a few times before starting your car to give them opportunity to run away

⚠ If you hear unusual noises when you start the car, stop it immediately!

Has your dog ever done anything that embarrassed you so much that you wished there was a hole in the ground? 🐕🤭 We'd love to hear your stories!

Did you know that there’s a lot you can do at home to improve your pet’s experience with us? 🤔

If your pet is not 100% comfortable coming in for an appointment, getting them used to what we usually do during a health exam can help them feel more relaxed.

For instance, practice checking their ears, touching their lips, trimming their nails or feeling their belly and then offering them a reward afterwards. This will make them feel more comfortable during our physical examinations. In no time, they’ll be used to these common procedures and will feel much more at ease during appointments!

We understand the thought of surgery might feel a bit daunting, but spaying and neutering isn’t just about avoiding surprise litters - it’s also about giving your pet a chance to lead a healthier life.

Here are our top reasons to recommend spaying and neutering:

👉 Neutered males are less likely to roam and have no risk of developing testicular tumours.

👉 Spayed females have a reduced risk of developing certain tumours and serious health conditions, such as womb infection (pyometra).

If you have questions or concerns, give us a call. We’re always happy to discuss what’s best for you and your pet. 🩺🐾

We hope that you never have to visit us due to an emergency problem, but these situations are unpredictable, so it’s always best to be prepared! 🚑

Traumatic injuries, such as road traffic accidents, urinary blockages, prolonged or multiple seizures, ingestion of toxic foods or substances, and difficulties breathing are among the most common issues that cause an emergency visit to the vets.

If you’re not sure if you have an emergency on your hands and if your pet needs emergency care, we’re here to help, so don’t hesitate to call us! Make sure you have our number saved on your phone, so you don’t have to waste time looking for it when you need it. 📲

Have you heard of a parasite called Toxocara? According to a recent study, these parasite's eggs are present in most parks in the UK and Ireland, especially parks that are frequently used for dog walks. 🐕‍🦺

Dogs can easily pick up Toxocara eggs from contaminated soil and bring them into your home on their paws and fur. Children can end up ingesting these eggs, for instance, by kissing pets or by forgetting to wash their hands after playing with their furry friends.

Ingested eggs will then travel to the intestine and develop into adult worms, causing intestinal symptoms.

The best way to prevent parasite infections in your dog is by using parasite preventative treatments. Get in touch with us if you have any questions about de-worming!
