With the appearance of these fox tails (grass seeds) please be vigilant in checking your dogs paws especially when they start to dry out they become golden coloured and blend in so they are difficult to see. Please remove these as they’re very painful and could cause major infections and track through your dogs body

IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT FLEECES, COATS and JUMPERS etc.

Morning all,

Just wanted to share some information with you about the effect that things like jackets, equafleeces, surgical vests and things like jumpers can have on your dogs coat.

Anything that you put on your dog that comes into contact with the fur can increase the risk of knotting. The knotting is caused by the friction between the fur and the material. Although things like equafleeces are really good for keeping your dog clean and dry during walks don't overlook the effects on the coat and make sure you brush your dog a lot more when you are putting clothes on the doggos 🙂

Also something else to think about is the dampness of the clothes. If you walk in the rain and the item gets wet you most likely hang it up to dry when you get home. If the item isn't fully dry and you put back on the dog then it can make the fur damp again, and if that day is a sunny or dry day you might not think anything of it. When the fur is made damp again this will also make the knotting worse animist likely cause the knotting to form close to the skin, which are the hard knots to remove and more often than not they are the knots that cause the dog the discomfort, which then leads to reluctance to being brushed at home and also mostly the reason why groomers end up clipping dogs off. My advice would be put the coat etc in the tumble dryer when you get home so that it is definitely dry when put back on the dog.

Below are some photos of a dogs coat, that when brushed you wouldn't think there were any knots however when you see the coat when it is wet you can see all of the little solid knots. The fluffy photos are with the knots in but I had already dried the dog prior to removing the coat. This was done with a slicker brush and you can see the illusion created by brushing the outer coat and not getting to the knots. The knots when wet look like denser white patches all over the dogs body. These are all really close to the skin and in the severity that they have formed this dog needed to be clipped off. This was the safest groom for the dog and the only one we would go with with knotting like this.

On this particular dog it had recently been spayed so had been in a surgical vest, and then had been wearing equafleeces on walks.

Clothes on animals is definitely ok, and I have jackets and jumpers for my dogs too for the winter and when it is rainy, but just remember to increase the frequency of brushing and combing during these periods and also dry the clothes before putting them back on 🙂

Any questions please fire them back at me in the comments 🙂
