14 month old weimaraner looking for a forever home. Currently in foster in westerham.
General Overview:
Max is a charming, cheeky, and intelligent 14-month-old Weimaraner who has settled exceptionally well into foster care. While he was reported to have severe separation anxiety, he hasn’t displayed signs such as panting or pacing. Instead, Max has proven to be lively, confident, and adaptable. He thrives in the company of other dogs, forming friendships quickly, and his playful, sociable nature makes him a joy to have around.
Personality & Fun Quirks:
Max’s cheeky personality is one of his most endearing traits. He loves to make everyday moments more entertaining, such as turning the simple task of drying his feet into a lively game of tug-of-war with the towel. He’s also a bit of a mischief-maker, often stealing socks and gleefully running off with them, daring you to join in his game.
Because of his height and his gangly, still-growing frame, Max can sometimes be a little clumsy, misjudging his space or bumping into things. This adds to his goofy charm and playful nature.
Physical Characteristics:
Max is tall and lanky, with plenty of growing to do before he fills out. His strong nose and love of scenting make him a natural tracker and showcase his instincts as a member of the HPR (hunt, point, retrieve) group. Due to these strong scenting instincts, Max is not suited to a home with cats or small furries, as he may be inclined to chase them.
Home Environment:
Max would thrive in a home with experienced HPR or gundog owners who understand his breed’s need for both mental and physical stimulation. He is very good with children and gets on wonderfully with the foster carer’s 12-year-old stepdaughter.
Although he does bark and guard when someone comes to the door, this is purely alertness—there’s no sign of aggression. Max is also a very affectionate boy and enjoys sleeping close to his humans, either on the bed or his own bed on the floor in the bedroom.
Feeding:
As a very food-motivated dog, Max is fed separately to avoid any competition with other dogs. He also needs close management around food as his height and curiosity make it easy for him to counter-surf for unattended snacks, whether dog food or human treats!
Training and Recall:
Max’s basic obedience is good, and his recall is impressive for his age. However, as he moves into adolescence, this will require consistent monitoring and reinforcement to maintain. A little additional training to help address his occasional neediness and guarding behaviours is also recommended.
Exercise & Stimulation:
Max requires equal amounts of mental and physical stimulation. He loves exploring his environment and using his nose to follow scents, which provides him with plenty of mental engagement. A family familiar with working breeds and their needs would be ideal to keep him happy, stimulated, and content.
Summary:
Max is a playful, mischievous, and affectionate young dog with bags of personality. His cheeky antics—whether it’s sock-stealing or towel-tugging—will keep his new family entertained, and his clumsy, gangly nature only adds to his charm. However, due to his strong scenting instincts, Max is not suited to a home with cats or small furries. With a committed and knowledgeable owner who can meet his physical and mental needs, Max has all the potential to blossom into an incredible, loyal companion ready for plenty of fun and adventure.
