Sadly a few weeks ago, One of my own horses hazel was discovered with kissing spine.
Due to how bad it was the decision that surgery was the best thing for her.
So Wednesday two weeks ago she went in for the surgery.
thankfully all went very well and she came home the next day!
She’s almost completed her box rest and not long till she can start having a small area of turnout and the long rehab then begins!
Hazel was out eventing last year and was feeling on top form!
although recently, Hazel hasn’t played up or been naughty but I started to notice small discomforts under saddle. It was very small things like not being able to take a long stride to a jump and having to get right underneath, not bending aswel as she use to, feeling reluctant but still doing what was asked, I just didn’t feel like she was enjoying it.
Little things like that, which could have easily been put down to many different things, But this rang alarm bells for me. It wasn’t her in the slightest, so decided to investigate and I am glad I did!
I find it some important to know your horse as hazel didn’t have to get to the stage of bucking/rearing to show she was in pain.
It is looking hopeful that next year she be back out eventing and hopefully feeling 10x better than before. 🤞
