When producing horses, I always find it so important to make sure they have the basics spot on even very simple things, as it makes everything else so much easier!
One thing that is very important to me when backing is voice commands. Horse all ways need to understand what leg means and know how to stop when asked but I find also using voice commands so important.
I tend to see it as back up if ever needed and sometimes when horses panic they may not listen to you pulling on the reins, yet when there in such a panic they may be more likely to listen to your voice as there in need of some help.
Obviously this isn’t always the case but any horse I back I always teach them via voice command, I have certainly seen it come in hand many of times.
This is from the summer, little George showing how he understand voice commands.
This little chap is one of mine and will eventually be looking for his new 🏠 I am in absolutely no rush and planned to be actively looking for his new best friend in the spring.
He is 13.2 new forest and an absolutely sweetheart 🥰
Fully backed now walking, trotting and cantering even been induced to jumps and been cross country.
Such a super boy with a bright future 💪🏻
This video was from awhile ago, but Murphy was diagnosed with grade 4 ulcers so he was dealing with a lot of pain memory and as well as that he is generally quite a sharp horse.
He was super sensitive to ride and does need to be ridden very quietly, otherwise he can panic a lot more.
Pain memory is such a common thing I see and even sometimes it can become a learnt behaviour, as the horse is so use to having to do this behaviour.
So even when the horse isn’t in pain they may still be struggling, because they are unaware it’s not going to cause them pain anymore.
pain memory is something that needs to be ridden through very gently and needing to be very understanding towards the horse to why this behaviour is happening.
This is exactly what was going on with Murphy he had a lot of pain memory and anxiety towards being ridden, but not in anyway was he being naughty he was just anxious that he was going to be put in pain.
this is One of my favourite things to do is bomb-proofing 😂
This video is an old video but little alfie showing just how he really couldn’t care less, he was just 4 years old in the video having not long been backed by myself. ❤️
A very good ground work session with Murphy!
Murphy has many physical and mental issues that need to be over come, he isn’t an easy one but is showing lots of positives that we are heading in the right direction.
Murphy absolutely loves his ground work but is a horse that can become very bored very quickly and get distracted very easily, so when I am working with Murphy, I have to make sure we are doing lots of different things to keep his mind concentrated on me and staying focused.
Also I must say there is nothing better than doing this while watching the sunset 😍
my yearling colt Oakley having a play about the other day!
I have owned this boy for 8 months and there has been nothing more amazing than watching him grow up. 🥰
It’s absolutely amazing just what a little bit of time can do!
These videos are just 1 session apart from each other and the difference in flo already is amazing.
Sadly I very quickly realised flo was petrified of whips, rearing and kicking out. So I slowly worked on this with her trying to show her it was ok and she wasn’t going to be hurt from it.
Horrible to think she clearly has 😢
By the end she was ok with the whip and responding so well to all the cues and everything that was being asked of her.
This girl has been super just taking everything in the stride, she’s such a quick learner!
Little George doing so puddle training! 💙
Not that long ago i welcomed a new little face into the herd, lady twilight.
I saw this sweet girls advert and immediately fell in love with her, there was just something about her!
Her trainers at the racing yard was very set on finding her the perfect home, she had lots of interest so felt very lucky that she got to come home to me.
She has not long stopped racing and is only 3 years old so will be spending some time out in the field just being a horse and once she’s ready we will slowly start brining her into work and seeing what sort of things she enjoys.
Very excited to begin the re training of this lovely girl next year. ❤️
My absolute super mare hazel, doing her favourite thing flying round the cross country course a few weeks ago. ⭐️
Super Sox!
This boy really does give such a good feeling when jumping. 😍
He still has so much potential to that’s yet to be shown off. 💪🏻
Sox is still looking for his new home, he needs to find it soon as otherwise I be wanting to snap him up myself even more than I currently do. 😂

I am very excited to introduce the lovely atlas who is on sales livery with me currently.
He isn’t available yet as he is being brought back into work and still under assessment.
Today was his first ride and I was very impressed with him, he really is a lovely horse and someone will be so lucky.
