Should I throw sticks for my dog?

Simple answer – do not throw sticks for your dog.

Many pet owners are unaware of the dangers that stick throwing poses to their dog.

Dogs love to pick sticks up that fall from tree.Dogs like to entice their owners to play fetch.

Please dont be tempted to throw these sticks ,when they are caught by the dog they may cause injury.

Injuries

The types of injuries caused by stick throwing involve splintering of the wood in their mouths. This causes a foreign body reaction or puncturing of soft tissues in the back of their throat. The vital structures within the mouth and throat that may be damaged include the teeth, gums, tongue, blood vessels, windpipe (trachea) and food pipe (oesophagus).

Chewing sticks may also pose a choking hazard, there also cases where dogs have become impaled on sharp sticks ,

Swap for dog safe toys such as a Frisbee or rubber stick.
We always think that this kind of accident wouldn't happen to us!

Having long haired dogs I have used this DIY facility For many years and can highly recommend it.

Louis popped in for a bath, it's that time of year where he needed a good bath to deshed some of his coat. He loves the dryer which is a bonus.

DIY dog wash is available when our dog groomer Julie isn't here, most Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays but do give us a call to book beforehand.

It's just £15 per dog which includes, shampoo, towel and dryer. All you need to bring is a brush.

Communicating by tail

Dogs have been found to wag their tails more to the right when presented with their owners or someone they would like to approach.
When dogs observe other dogs with right-wagging tails,they show signs of increased relaxation.

Dogs wag their tails more to the left when faced someone or thing they would like to retreat from,such as an unfamiliar dog with an aggressive stance.Dogs observing others whose tails were wagging to the left showed signs of increased anxiety.

Guilty look?

"The posture that you are observing is an appeasement or submissive posture and does not reflect the emotion of guilt."

When the owners has been away and returns to find your pup has chewed the leg of your favorite chair or toileted on the floor.The owner may think that the pup 'knew' that he had done wrong because of the the guilty look on your pups face.

Your pup wont experience guilt as he is unaware that a crime had been committed.
For your pup to show this kind of remorse he would need a high degree of self awareness.

The look your pup gives you when it is reprimanded does not represent guilt but is just your pet’s effort at communicating concern about a potential confrontation.

Your pup doesn’t feel guilt instead he is an expert of reading human emotions.He is aware that his owner is angry when they raise their voice and perhaps shake a pointing hand.
Your pup will show body signals in response to their human actions.which won't relate not to the earlier (forgotten) actions of your pup,but to their current state.which will arouse feelings of fear,discomfort or anticipation of punishment.

Signs of appeasement signals

Licking their lips or nose
Yawning
Sneezing
Grinning
Scratching
Turning their eyes or head away
Lowering their ears
Lowering their head
Sniffing the ground

These are know as appeasement signals and designed to avoid dangerous ire of humans from becoming worst.

A little something to think about, however it could also be little dogs whom run up to on lead big dogs whom can cause problems to the on lead dogs

Teach your dogs to be happy with you and ignore other dogs while out working, walking and in public. Polite, well behaved dogs are a joy to be around.

We do not run up to every stranger we see, flap our arms around, hug them, yell in their face and expect them to be our new bestie....in fact, most of us would not tolerate that at all and would try to either get away from the person or lash out....so...it should come as no surprise that your dog behaves the same when way rushed upon.

Walk by, keep moving and remember...it is always OK to say NO to an interaction.

A few months ago I found this app that when you walk your dog it gives you points which you can exchange for vouchers so downloaded it and yep just have to walk the dog minimum 3 times a week and you get points I’ve had amazing vouchers and best of all no spam emails NOTHING!
Well worth it and at the moment if you use this link you get extra points
