KT's K9 Academy Offering a range of dog training services and classes throughout Derby/Notts/Burton and local areas I'm Katie and I am a Registered Veterinary Nurse.

I have a Foundation Science Degree in Veterinary Nursing and have been a qualified nurse for over 10 years. I have an Advanced Certificate in Canine Veterinary Nursing which covers dog stress, behaviour and training. I believe that having a well trained and socialised dog not only makes them a healthier and happier dog but also creates a massive bond between owner and dog. We currently offer two d

ifferent types of positive reward based dog classed which are based at Weston-On-Trent Village Hall. The Puppy Socialisation Classes run for a 4 week course and are suitable for puppies ranging from after their 1st vaccinations up to the age of 6 months. We cover socialisation with dogs, people and children, the vets and many other things. We also start to learn basic commands, health checking and behavioural problems. The Dog Obedience Classes are a beginner class and are based on the Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme Bronze Award. These are run for an 8 week course and are available for dogs over the age of 6 months old. These are group sessions and dogs of all ages, sizes, breeds and behaviour are able to attend these courses. They cover all basic obedience such as sit, down, stand, walking to heel, recall, wait and much more. Finally we offer a 121 service for people after that more personal experience. This involves a 2 hour initial consultation to work on the concerns as well as a full written training plan and continued phone support. these are available at requested locations.

Mental Stimulation is such an important part of any dogs life - you need to do mental exercise aswell as physical exercise with any dog which will help reduce unwanted behaviours 🧡🖤

Dave a 2 year old Border Collie has severe anxiety. Everything was fine until he got mauled by a dog on the park a year ago and had to go to the vets - since then his behaviour has slowly decline and he is wary of people and very anxious of dogs. He spent majority of the consultation behind the chair in his safe space 😪😪😪 this behaviour has escalated since he was chemically castrated.
By the end of the consult he was coming out more and taking treats but there is alot of work to do with this boy.
We have included...
✅️ Safe spaces - including his crate
✅️ Mental Stimulation
✅️ Leaving the house desensitisation
✅️ How people should approach him
✅️ Outside desensitisation

In order to get the best from Dave - we need to wait until his chemical castration has worn off (they last 6 months in total) o grt the best benefit of his testosterone coming back up and giving him confidence to deal with situations. I have advised for him not to be neutered whilst so anxious 🖤🧡

Our Story

I have an Advanced Certificate in Canine Veterinary Nursing which covers dog stress, behaviour and training as well as a ThinkDog! Certificate in Dog Behaviour and Training. We currently offer two different types of positive reward based dog classed which are based at Ark Veterinary Clinics in Long Eaton and Bright Side Vets in Swadlincote The Puppy Socialisation Classes run for a 4 week course and are suitable for puppies ranging from after their 1st vaccinations up to the age of 6 months. We cover socialisation with dogs, people. children, the vets and many other things. We also start to learn basic commands, health checking and behavioural problems.
