Some you will have seen in the news over the last couple of days about the CMA (Competition and Mergers Authority) and veterinary prices.
If you dig below the ‘headline’, the vast majority of their concerns are to do with corporate and private equity ownership of many vet practices and groups, and how this is affecting competition and prices, especially in towns where there are no independent practices left. For example, many practices that are taken over try to ‘hide’ the fact by retaining the same name and putting the new corporate owner details in the small print. They often won’t display any prices on their websites. They are tied into certain lab and medication suppliers that are also owned by their corporate owner to maximise profits.
Individual vets, nurses and receptionists who work at corporate owned practices generally have no say in matters of pricing and policies and they can bear the brunt of disgruntled clients, which is also unfair on our fellow professionals.

We are 100% independent, the only such practice in Wetherby and the near vicinity. It’s owned by the people that work there every day (Helen, Ed, Tracy, Julian and Mark) so we have a real vested interest in looking after our wonderful clients and our team.
We display prices of common items on our website, like vaccination and neutering, and will happily provide quotes and estimates for any other procedures.
We will always work with you to provide you with the best options and outcome for your pet, and always keep you up to date with the cost.
We invest in great equipment but equally we know that not every case needs every test doing.
We have the freedom to choose our own suppliers based on quality of service, as opposed to cost/profit.
We firmly believe that although high quality veterinary care can never be ‘cheap’, we always try and offer excellent service and value, with a really kind, experienced team that will listen to your concerns and always do the best in any given situation.
