Hi guys,

We’ve had a great first week up in Whickham at Tanya’s Dog Grooming and thanks to all those for travelling a bit further to get your pooch groomed.

Sadly, due to the size of the bath and unit we are only able to groom small to medium breeds. For anyone looking for a local groomer who can’t travel or grooms larger breeds, then I’d strongly recommend Zoe from Petsercise as her grooms are excellent. RUBY, 8 MONTHS OLD DIED DUE TO POISNING OF ROAD GRIT

I've had permission from Nicola to post this, The beautiful Ruby, only 8 months old, has sadly had to be put to sleep😭😭😭

SHE WENT ON A WALK AND GOT GRIT ON HER FEET, SHES THEN LICKED HER FEET AND THE GRIT HAS POSINED HER😭😭 nicola wants to make this super aware to other dog owners so others don't go through the absolute heartbreak they are going through right now, I am absolutely heartbroken for nicola and her family, 8 months old is no age for a dog 😭😭

Road GRIT contains anti freeze and gylcol, she died a painful death and im absolutely heartbroken

RIP Ruby, you where a little character and you'll be missed 💜

From January, the dog grooming will be moving up to Whickham. The new opening hours will be Tuesday - Friday 9am until 5pm.

Understandably, there will be a few people that aren’t able to travel that far. Most groomers do get fully booked a couple of months in advance, so we just wanted to give customers plenty of notice to find another local groomer well in advance for next years appointments if need be.

“HEATSTROKE IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY”

I’m compelled to keep posting this. I’ve learned of a number of dogs that have died of heatstroke in the recent heatwave.

If you see a horse or person or dog with heatstroke, then cool them down by hosing/spraying water from the outside or house water supply (usually 10-20°C). It doesn't have to be ice-cold to be effective as long as you put a lot on. You may well save a life!

And yes, I know there is a lot of advice about cooling horses, dogs and people which goes against aggressive cooling and advises ice packs in the groin or armpit and using tepid water! It's outdated and ineffective and if you follow it your horse/dog/person is more likely to suffer permanent injury or worse!

If you don't believe me, then listen to the people who do this for a living with people...

Important little update:

We’ve had a few incidents lately where people have clipped their car on the stone wall at the top of the drive or driven down the steps accidentally.

It is quite a scary driveway to negotiate if you aren’t familiar with it, so could we please ask everyone NOT to drive down the driveway in future.

Depending on what you’re doing whilst you wait for your dog to be groomed, you can either park in: the lay-by at the top of the driveway, The Red Kite Pub next door, Petro’s restaurant opposite or The Land of Oak and Iron Cafe and bring your dogs down the steps by foot please.
