The act of ‘Doing nothing’ 🐾
Do you know how important the act of ‘doing nothing’ is with dogs? Especially young dogs and puppies! For me, it is one of the most important stages in training a young dog.
Everyone hears dog training and generally assumes it’s all fast paced, hard work. When I’m actual fact, ‘doing nothing’ is something every dog should learn. It’s an essential part of socialisation, and also helps reduce the risk of a particularly stressy or anxious dog.

‼️PLEASE NOTE‼️

The weather is getting warmer, which means the risk of heat stroke is increasing for our dogs.
Please be aware any training sessions may be cancelled due to the heat. Walks may be changed to a home visit. I am not willing to put a dog at risk for training or a walk.
Any sessions cancelled will be rescheduled as soon as possible, either early morning or evening, but again this rescheduled session will depend entirely on the heat.
At Pearl PAWS Whitby, your dogs safety comes before anything else. I would rather reschedule a few sessions than risk a dog becoming extremely poorly.
I do apologise in advance for any sessions I have to reschedule.
Please also remember to check the outdoor floor temperature before walking your dogs, hot pavements burn paws.

Some loose lead walking practice with the wonderful Maggie, she did a great job 🐾

This is Maggie, a Dogue De Bordeaux puppy who’s owners contacted me for general puppy training. We’ve been working on lead walking and controlling excitement around other dogs and people. This was during Maggie’s third session, I think it’s safe to say she’s doing very well🤩 There’s still a way to go, especially with more major distractions, but Maggie is definitely going down the right path!🐾 It’s very important to be patient when training, especially with puppies. It’s very repetitive, but the end result is absolutely worth it! Please contact me for any training enquiries 🐾

Lead Training - 1 Session

Here is a video of Walter, a Dachshund who’s owner approached me for help with pulling on the lead. During his assessment visit, Walter was practically pulling his owner all over. He would drag his owner to sniff grass, and would bark and pull towards other dogs and people. During the initial description of Walters behaviour, it seemed as though he was reactive. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case, and all he needed was to learn focus and manners on the end of the lead. This video was taken from our first session yesterday, and within about 30 minutes Walter was at this point, where he was walking at a heel on a nice loose lead, with very good focus on his owner. All this was done without treats, as Walter is a little bit fussy! So I focused solely on praise, body language and pressure and release. We still have some work to do, but this result in just one session is remarkable.
