Dehydration during lambing can pose significant risks to both the ewe and their lambs. During lambing, ewes may become stressed, which can affect their hydration levels. If not properly managed, dehydration can lead to:
1. Reduced milk production: Dehydration can decrease the ewe's milk yield, which is critical for the lamb's nutrition and survival.
2. Increased risk of complications: Dehydrated ewes are more prone to conditions like uterine prolapse, infections, and poor recovery post-lambing.
3. Weak or lethargic lambs: If the ewe is dehydrated, her lambs may also struggle with weak nursing or difficulty standing and feeding.
It's essential to monitor hydration closely by ensuring the ewe has access to fresh, clean water and electrolyte solutions. Providing proper nutrition and a calm environment can also help reduce stress and support optimal hydration levels during lambing.

Outdoor lambing still requires careful planning and management. Outdoor grazing may not always provide sufficient nutrition for ewes, especially if pasture conditions are poor or if there is a lack of supplemental feed.

Posted • Nothing quite like seeing the bond being mother and her lamb 😍

We’ve been quiet on the lamb spam this year, it’s been a busy start to the year with 34 ewes lambing on first cycle, and it was the busiest 48 hours we’ve ever had at one point and felt like we got no sleep😴😂

Now resting ready for second cycle next week😊
