Let’s talk ✨Grooming✨
Grooming is important for all dogs, no matter their breed or age.
It is especially important to introduce grooming at a very young age.
Puppies key socialisation period is between ages 3 weeks to 14 weeks.
For majority of short haired breeds you will just need to spruce them up every so often. But for any fluffy or long haired breeds you need a much more thorough schedule. This little puppy pictured below is Nova, she is a Cockapoo and is 13 weeks old. She has already had her first session at the groomers. An appointment at a dog groomers doesn’t mean they have to have their hair cut. Puppy intros can be for a bath and blow dry, to get used to the noises of a salon or tidy up their face.
Nova gets brushed daily with the brush and metal comb. Making sure there are no tangles in her fur. Brushing her everyday also allows me to check for anything that could be hiding in her fur like ticks, fleas or cuts.
I own short haired and long haired dog breeds and I have a dedicated day of the week where I spend the day grooming. This includes nail trimming, nose and paw balm, checking between their paw pads and various other things. Having a dedicated day allows me to not forget anything. For Nova she still has to have her daily brushing which isn’t a necessity for my other dogs. But she is already loving being on the table.
