I feel this is an important subject and something all pet owners who pay a dog walker should be looking at. As I dog owner myself when asking for recommendations for pet sitters etc. I have had random people message me offering to look after my pets but none of them run a pet business or have insurance so please be careful.
Rest assured when we open on the 3rd July we will be insured with Petplan and I will happily provide proof of insure for any prospective clients
It can be overwhelming for someone looking for a dog walker or a pet sitter and seeing prices wondering why someone charges between £10-15 a hour for a walk while others charge £20-25 a hour for a dog walk.
Some anwers could be a liveable wage,
Insurance or experience.
The question is, how do you know who to trust and who would be best for your dog?
ALWAYS ALWAYS ask your walker for their Insurance information. Below is the MINIMUM requirement for a dog walker to have. This only covers if your dog potentially causes injury to a member of the public.
What if your walker transports your dog in their car and gets in a accident and your dog is hurt?
What if your walker looses your dog on a walk and they go missing?
What if your walker is entering your home when your not there and something happens?
These things aren't normally mentioned, or even thought of because these things MIGHT not happen but what if they do?
There are a few instances where I've had clients or people I know trust someone with their dog and something goes wrong. That person then cannot be held accountable.
I am fully insured for the following
Dog walking
Pet minding
Pet sitting
Pet transportation
And everything the above entails and every eventually so your pets and myself are safe and covered in case anything happens.
This is always available for people to see when requested. But I also notice people don't ask.
So essentially any person can call themselves a dog walker and a pet sitter and look after your pets or walk your dogs.
This shouldn't be a thing. In my eyes it's not safe. Everyone should have insurance and be held accountable.
If someone isn't covered to walk your dog and you have not seen the PROOF, they are insured as a professional business. They should not be walking your dog.
Just ask yourself the what ifs?
WHAT IF SOMETHING HAPPENED?
It's not worth your dog/pets safety.
