Look at these well fed beasties!
These are ticks found in the local area which have enjoyed a blood meal from a canine patient.
Ticks are abundant at the moment & can carry nasty diseases. We strongly advise you treat your dog and cats with effective tick products to prevent them from getting nasty infections or skin reactions from these creatures.
If you would like to order your pets parasitic preventative treatment please request a prescription online if we have seen your pet before https://thevetwhitehaven.co.uk/online-repeat-prescription/
or call the practice 01946 878108 for advise.

How do I prevent gum disease?
There are quite a few options available to help manage your pet’s gum disease in ways that suit both you and your pet.
Without a doubt the best way to prevent gum disease is by Brushing your pets teeth which reducing plaque and ultimately tartar build up. We fully appreciate not every patient will allow you to do this but you might be surprised how well your pet may respond if you haven’t already tried. They actually might even enjoy this new form of attention and the taste of the enzymatic toothpaste!
The key to starting teeth brushing is by introducing this technique gradually, be patient and use rewards and you'll be brushing in no time! We have created 3 simple step videos to demonstrate the slow introduction to teeth brushing to your pet.
Today: Step 1 of introducing tooth brushing:
-Rub your finger over the teeth but only if you’re sure you won’t get bitten!
As part of our Puppy/ Kitten Health Checks we offer at The Vet Whitehaven, our team always talk about the importance of teeth brushing. By introducing teeth brushing at an early age, he or she will grow up thinking it's part of a normal daily routine. Regular brushing, and at least twice-yearly checks with your vet, will mean less dental disease.
