Shearing came at the right time with all this weather 🌞🌞
All had a new adventure yesterday moving to a new farm, thanks to Sweet Home Alpaca for assisting and thanks to Frowen Fields Eco Glamping & Camping for the holibobs over the past 5 months.
In the next 18 months, I hope the boys will be on their own turf once more, but for now, they continue to make new friends 🥰

Having had an amazing adventure with all the alpacas who have been part of Mynydd Bach herd over the last few years and more so in the past few month, the time has come for a new venture.

The alpaca dream would not have been possible at all without the guidance and support of Amazing Alpacas.

Thanks to Stay Balanced for looking after Houston and Dave who are doing amazing with their new friends,
Thanks to Y Fferm Fach for looking after the girls, who are also with many new friends in another fantastic location, doing great work! And, last but no means least...
A massive thank you to Frowen Fields Eco Glamping & Camping for taking in the remaining boys, who will stay as Mynydd Bach, but are on their extended holibobs making news friends and influencing people 😁

Without your help, support and continued commitment to animals and alpacas alike this would not have been possible.
Please continue to follow the alpacas via the links above and support these great businesses doing fantastic work. I'm sure there will be plenty more updates to come 🦙🤩

In this past week we've had several 1st birthdays including Dotty, Pap's and Bailey 🥳🥳🎉
Bailey and Pap's didn't have the best of starts, between a difficult birth and the other being born 4 weeks early, it's a week that won't be forgotten in a hurry!!
It's incredible how they have all grown, developed wonderful characters and in some cases beat the odds.
We may not have any cria this year, but we do have amazing yearlings in both our fantastic herds 💕🥰☺️

It's a big happy 2nd birthday to Dave today!!🥳🎉

This little cria is so strong, a testament to good dna we think.
Well done Seraphina, and thanks for the great genes Dad (Monty from Amazing Alpacas)💪🦙

🦙Meet Bailey🦙
Around 1pm on Friday 3rd June, Giggles decided she couldn’t be left out and gave birth to our fourth and final cria of 2022, a solid white boy we are calling Bailey…. About 3 weeks early!🙈

Bailey, like Papillon had a tough start in the world. Although not critically small, weighing in at around 7.5kg when born, he struggled getting to his feet and was even slower getting a feed from his Mam. Only able to stand a minute at a time before slumping to the ground again. Another night of bottle feeding ahead of us.

Come Saturday morning Bailey was very weak and just wouldn’t suckle, not even from the bottle. After a consultation with the vet it was agreed the best course of action would be to run a tube through his mouth to his belly to pour in colostrum direct. As bad as this might sound, it was very safe and worked! He perked up almost immediately and after another afternoon of bottle feeding he finally made it to his m**s milk! 🙌

Following a precautionary course of antibiotics he is now 3 days old weighing in at 9kg and happily skipping around with his Mam and the rest of the herd enjoying life and making friends with the other cria ☺️
We absolutely adore this little one. With his puppy dog eyes, floppy ears and happy temperament he’s sure to be a little star 🥰🦙

🦙Meet Dotty🦙
With everything going on with the little ones this week we just wanted to take a moment to introduce our 3rd cria this year, Mynydd Bach Dotty!😍

Born to Celena around 12pm on 1st June, this beautiful solid brown girl came in at a healthy 9kg and has had no problems at all finding her way in the world. She is a strong member of the Celena clan and at a few days old has already established a good friendship with her older nephew Bobby, regularly pronging around the field with him and generally running circles around Mamma and big sis Gigi. She is a bit camera shy this one but such a gorgeous little chocolate drop so will definitely be posting more soon! 😍🥰🥰

🦙Cria S Update - Meet Papillon🦋🦙
Well another hectic day here as cria no.4 appeared a couple weeks ahead of schedule earlier this afternoon but more on that another time. As for little cria S, here’s the latest as promised.

Born on Tuesday 31st May At 8pm (which is late in the day for an alpaca birth) Seraphinas little one had a rough start to life. Reason for this was that he could not take milk from his Mam which is vital in the first few hours of birth in order to get colostrum and the antibodies needed to survive what life throws at him. Try as we might, we could not get Seraphina to milk, so being around midnight at the time we took our best course of action and tried bottle feeding him some colostrum substitute through the night. Morning came and the shearers were due so we thought best thing was to try milking Seraphina whilst on the shearing mat. Having never actually milked an alpaca before ourselves, Marie from Midwales alpaca shearing stepped in and managed to free up enough milk not only to release the pressure on poor Seraphina, who was visibly relieved by this, but also for us to put into a bottle and feed to the little one giving him that vital colostrum that he needed.

In doing this we suspected that Seraphina had mastitis (an infection of the udder which make the teats swollen and sore) and that was blocking the cria from getting at her milk. We continued to bottle feed him through the night and this was confirmed by the vet the following morning. Seraphina was then put on a course of antibiotics and they took bloods from the cria. The bloods were to check for certain antibody levels and if too low he would need a plasma (blood) transfusion. Luckily the milk we managed to get into him must have worked as his readings, although not perfect, was high enough not to need plasma as he was still holding his own. Another night of bottle feeding and today he was bright as a button and even feeding from his Mamma. 3 days old, he’s not out of the woods yet but we are feeling a lot more positive.

So here he is, now named in honour of the French lady that saved his life and a nod to the film of someone who couldn’t be broken… Mynydd Bach Papillon!😍🦋🥰🦙

An intense few days here at Mynydd Bach Alpacas!
🦙 Tuesday 31st May around 8pm 🦙
Seraphina unexpectedly gave birth to a little boy of 8kg 4 days early who we are currently calling Cria S. BIt if a rough start to life for this little one unfortunately, as he was unable to take milk from Mam and as a result we have had to bottle feed constantly for the last couple days, more on this to follow but all our fingers and toes are crossed for the little guy 💙😟

🦙Wednesday 1st June 12pm🦙
After a night of looking after Seraphinas little one it was time to prep for shearing day, around 12 pm it was time for lunch only to see that out of nowhere another little cria has appeared! Looking very pleased with herself, Celena decided to sneak out the birth of our 3rd cria this year whilst our backs were turned! A very healthy 9kg little girl we are calling Dotty! 🥰 ….. just hours before the shearer was due!😱

🦙Wednesday 1st June - 5.30pm🦙
Shearing is upon us! ✂️✂️ A huge thank you to Tom and his team from Mid Wales Alpaca Shearing for a very successful shearing exercise. All animals trimmed and settled and with the weather suddenly changing for the hotter, very much cooler and happier. Never ceases to amaze us how different they all look, like naked little giraffes wondering around the paddocks 😂🥰🥰
Time to regroup, have some kip and move forward into what will hopefully be a beautiful first summer at our new home with these amazing animals. Updates on Seraphina and little Cria S and more on little Dotty to follow shortly 💙

Finally we have seen the birth of our first 2022 cria this morning!🙌

Born from Gigi (Dam) and Billy Bob (Sire) from Amazing alpacas, we are pleased to introduce Mynydd Bach Bobby 🦙😍

Mamma Gigi did great for her first one without any assistance, little Bobby was already standing and ready for milk when we went out 7am this morning, so proud of her 🥰

Weighing in at around 8 kilos, both cria and Mamma are doing well. 🦙😍😍

Gigi is now two days overdue and doesn’t look even remotely bothered by all our nail biting! 👀😬
Thinking of running a book on when she’s going to drop.. 🤔

My bet is she’s holding on for all the heavy rain we’re due tomorrow 🙈🦙🤪

15/04/2022

Gigi loves playing with the hose when we top their water up.
As the hot weather starts to come in (We’re sure it will at some point!🤞), they do like a puddle of water to lie in to cool off through their bellies.

Definitely getting them a splash mat this year! 😃 🦙 💦
