Kaz is a Golden Retriever and a Guide Dog , she visited the salon today for a hand strip, de shed, bath and tidy. She was so well behaved and very patient throughout her grooming. 🤩🧡

UNDERCOAT. You’d be surprised when I tell you that double coated dogs such as, West Highland Whites, lightly shed their undercoat all year round. Despite the seasonal changes, due to fur becoming trapped amongst their rough outer layer. This is why I ditch the whitening shampoo and opt for a shed relief shampoo, which is gentle on skin, nourishes the coat and it’s purpose build formula agitates loose fur. This is Esme, she visits the salon every 8 weeks and receives a short and practical groom.

HORMONES & COAT. Scout is a Working Cocker Spaniel and visits the salon for a groom twice a year. She was spayed around 6 months ago and her coat has developed some extra ‘fluff’ on each side of her body and legs. It was very minimal so I decided to use a fine toothed stripping knife to remove most of the fuzz. I did not use any clippers for Scouts groom and I am very happy with the outcome as her coat has remained shiny, glossy and rich in colour. Cocker Spaniels do not need clipping in most cases and stripping is a great tool to protect and preserve the coat.

Eric the Staffordshire Bull Terrier has a short coat type and received a deep deshedding session. I used the Shed Control Shampoo, combined with ZoomGroom and Curry Comb, to remove dander and fur. 💚

ADAPT. 🤝 Your dog’s health and welfare is significant when adaptions are required in any environment and especially in those that they are familiar with such as the ‘grooming salon’. Using the floor for example or allowing them to lay down during the duration of a groom is a gentler and relaxed approach. Also continuous engagement, through sense, sound and smell is paramount to keep them relaxed, calm and cool.

DOUBLE COAT. In the warmer months double coated breeds generally moult more often. Saffy, a German Shepherd is nearly 13 years old and visits the salon a couple of times a year. Her coat is well managed at home, but she does also require maintenance sessions to reduce excessive shedding, prioritising sanitation, nourishing hair and skin.

LITTLE & BIG. The Clumber Spaniel is the largest spaniel breed. Little Cooper is 4 months old and a confident boy. I can’t wait to see how his relationship with Luna develops. Luna is a 7 years old working spaniel and Cooper will no doubt follow in her footsteps . 💙🐶💜

WASH AND TIMING. Reilly has a very manageable regime and routine. At 8 years old he is one of the most docile and laidback larger dogs that I work with. He has a bath and blow dry in between his full grooms, which rids his coat of dander and debris, replenishing his skin cells and hair follicle.. just like us humans! This is a great way to protect his coat and also maintain its skinny and bright appearance.
