KWK9 Rescue

KWK9 Rescue A Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation SCO41937 We aim to match each dog with the new owner who best meets the dog's needs.

Our Aims:

To offer dogs a second leash of life:

We aim to offer the best possible care to our dogs while they are with us and until their right 'forever home' is found. We will interact with and assess each dog while in our care, so that new owners can be provided with as full a picture as possible. We will carry out a home check to assess suitablility prior to adoptions. We will offer advice an

d support to new owners prior to and after adoption. We aim to try neuter when it is in the best interest of the animal or owner to do so. We aim to microchip where possible.

Important Announcement

We are deeply saddened to let you all know that KWK9 Rescue will have to take a temporary break from rehoming dogs and Fundraising.

As you are aware the charities committee is run by a small team of 5 and is solely volunteer based around their other commitments, due to numerous circumstances we are unable to continue on at this current time as we simply don’t the man power/time to run the charity at its full functionality.

This is not a decision that we have come to lightly and had hoped to avoid but we hope to reevaluate things in around 6 months’ time with a new way to move forward on how best to run the charity and do what is best for any future dogs and committee members.
We are hoping that after this break we will have some fresh ideas and be in a better position to move forward. We will need new members from within the community joining the committee to help with the logistics of rehoming as well as a separate fundraising committee.

We as a team are extremely proud of all the dogs and families that we have helped over the years from helping abandoned/injured dogs, assisting families with rehoming for various circumstances, being able to help with unexpected vet bills & surgeries as well as offering advice to those that need it.

If you have a direct debit or standing order set up and wish to cancel this while we are on pause please do get in touch so this can be arranged.

Any funds that the charity has will be held in the account until we are back up and running, we do have some forever foster dogs that still require care and we will continue to do so.
We will also have to cancel our annual Christmas Fayre, if we have not been in touch with you already please do get in contact ASAP and we will arrange for a refund of your deposit paid.

We currently have donation tins in various locations across the county and please ask that you contact us on 07760 803346 to arrange for collection, if we do not answer please leave a voicemail.

We are always incredibly grateful for the support we have had from the community over the last 14 years and all those that have fostered for us.
We will update the page and website with any additional information as and when we can.

This lovely post from one of our very valued fosters sums it up really

Reading between the lines - I would say that the only way KWK9 will be able to continue would be for new supporters / volunteers and committee members to not just offer help but to commit to offering practical help. This rescue has helped so many dogs and people in Caithness over the years - Its time we all committed some of our time and energy into helping take KWK9 into the next era. The present committee has done an amazing job, often under difficult and sometimes upsetting conditions. Each and everyone of them deserve a huge thank you for everything they have accomplished . They now need our support . . . or KWK9 will be no more. I am happy to commit to continuing to foster dogs to transport dogs as needed and support other fosterers So many of us have different skills and experiences to offer, even if it is for a few hours a week . . .

This is copied from the Comet Tales page.
It’s worth bearing in mind I think if you have a dog showing new, unusual behaviour. Obviously, not all dogs will be affected but it’s pretty serious if your dog is.

Dear Dog Food people. Stop putting Rosemary extract in foods that previously didn’t have Rosemary extract. You too Milk Bones. Especially for dogs like me that experience extremely rapid respiration, gastric discomfort, and unexplained neurological behavior that includes incessant catatonic pacing (for hours and sometimes all night long) and nipping flies that aren’t there when exposed to Rosemary extract. Yes, we read the labels. And it’s increasingly hard to avoid it. This one caught us off guard, because it didn’t use to have it. When I have Rosemary it’s like the movie the Sixth Sense…I see weird things that aren’t really there.
We also discovered certain deli meats (they wrap my pills in) has Rosemary extract. Now I get my pills in Prosciutto! Score!

A reminder.
We are sympathetic to the problem families and professionals face with pets when someone is taken into hospital. However, we are not able to provide foster care for dogs whose owners want short term care for them. We simply don’t have the resources to offer this support.
Please don’t ask because we really can’t help.

We have just had a couple of messages on here asking for help. We are unable to reply because it says the person is not on messenger. If you can either enable messenger or phone on 07760803346 someone will phone you back if you leave a message.

Total takings at the dog show £488.20.
That’s an excellent amount considering we had cut back on stalls and there were so many other events on.
Very grateful thanks to our judge Sue Mileham, who never guessed when she adopted a dog that she would end up judging the dog show. Also many thanks to all the people who helped out on the day, all the lovely people who attended and all the fabulous dogs who came along and behaved so beautifully.
