Edgar and Margaret Hatcher are one of the happiest couples on the farm. Before Edgar arrived at Puffin Croft he’d never seen another goose. It was love at first sight and he’s totally devoted. 🥰

Employment opportunity for 15-20 year old to help feeding and cleaning out the animals, filling feed bins, and various other farm duties as needed.

1 or 2 days a week for 4 hours a time. More days and hours possible in the summer if interested. 8:30/9 am start and can be flexible on which day works best for you.

Requirements: no experience necessary just a good work ethic, reliable, trustworthy and physically fit (wheelbarrow manure, carry a 25kilo bag of animal feed etc). A love for animals and being outside.

The work is mostly outside so waterproofs and layers and good boots/wellies for whatever the weather!

All work is closely monitored by the animal whose pen you are cleaning 😉

Please send me a message if interested telling me a little about yourself.

Rabbits that are used to living outside year round are incredibly resilient to cold weather and you generally don’t need to worry about them as long as they have shelter, there’s only been one winter I’ve had to move the rabbits due to very low (-10) temps. However this doesn’t apply to older rabbits. Atilla-the-bun is my oldest rabbit on the farm and today have moved him into the house to be more comfortable winter. He’s a bit stiff these days and rests a lot anyway so doesn’t need as much space as a younger rabbit. The only question is will I get any work done now this cutie is on the table next to me?!! 🐰

January 1st started with a power cut that lasted most of the day here in John O’Groats but ended with Mother Nature turning on the northern lights which is a pretty good trade off!
Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2025 💝

Due to the storm tomorrow I have had to make the sad decision to cancel the Carols in the barn event for tomorrow at 4pm. It’s such a shame and the first time in 8 years I’ve had to cancel. Sorry for any disappointment.

I received this comment yesterday and a few have been asking so thought I’d make a post for anyone who would like to feed their favourite animal over winter. I ran this last year and it made a huge difference going into the long winter.
It’s easy to do - click on the link below. Find your favourite animal and choose the month you’d like to feed them. Once done only you are feeding that animal for that month! Prices vary from as little as £4 to feed a rabbit to £12 to feed a pig 🐽
