A couple of new ones for us! Floating frogs and white claw Towuti crabs are now in stock for anyone after a rarity π
Indonesian floating frogs will max out at 2 inches are suitable for small aquariums, they are proving to be very peaceful and accepting frozen foods. They spend most of their time floating on the surface, but will occasionally come out on land and spend some time on the bottom of the aquarium.
White claw crabs are another Indonesian native, found only in 2 lakes in Sulawesi. These crabs are fully aquatic and don't require a land space in the tank unlike most other species. They are proving very active and also don't hide away as much as other crab species, a must try for any invert fans π¦
Both will need a tight fitting lid!!
Some new guppies in this week! The colours on these are just stunning and they are proving very popular this weekend π€©π€©
Some nice oddities in at the moment if you're after something more unique. We've got vampire crabs and dwarf aquatic frogs back in stock for those who have been asking ππ»πΈ
Our adult Oscars are now on offer! The price is reduced again if purchasing 2 together ππ» these fish need a very large tank and we will only be selling them to very good homes π π‘
Please ask us for details
We are amazed with these clouded archerfish we've managed to order in. Unlike the common archerfish this species from Myanmar is fully freshwater, making them easier to care for.
Known for their ability to 'spit' at prey above the water surface they are some very impressive predatory fish.
This intelligent species does need a spacious, well maintained aquarium with live and frozen foods a must.
Any questions please ask π
We've managed to source some really beautiful tropicals this week, just look at these colours ππ
First baby budgies of 2024 are now ready for sale! They are fully weaned and very inquisitive π₯° some beautiful colours on them too π¦

Some fantastic Bengalese (society) finches π¦ in this week, including fawns, piebald and even a true albino! π€
Fancy something else unique?
We've got some blind cave tetras in this week. This native of Mexico and southern Texas is a cave specialist, and as an adaptation to low/non-existent light levels sports no pigments and no eyes!
In order to find food and each other they feel vibrations and pressure changes in the water from a lateral line organ that runs down the side of their bodies.
Luckily for us, they are easy to keep in an aquarium. Very hardy, adapt to a wide range of foods and are most comfortable around 20-25Β°C.
Growing to around 4-5 inches each these schooling fish are best kept with other larger, robust fish such as bigger tetras, catfish and barbs.
Some nice, vibrant livebearers in this week!
These are some of our tropical favourites, colourful, active, hardy and perfect community fish.
Even better, they will all live together without issues in a large enough tank!
We also have a s*xed pair of wrestling halfbeaks for the livebearer enthusiast. π

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
From all staff at Universal Waterlife ππ»
Did you know the black ghost knifefish gets its name from a native Amazonian belief that the ghosts of dead tribe members live on in these fish. Spooky! π»π
This guy is currently on sale for anyone with a large enough tank and suitable tank mates.
With temperatures regularly below 13-14Β°C, now is the perfect time to start adding winter wheatgerm into your pond fishes diet.
As the temperatures drop, your koi and other pond fish will see a huge reduction in their metabolism, making high protein summer foods difficult to digest, leading to constipation and other issues.
Wheatgerm is high in fat content, as well as essential vitamins and minerals, and provides slow release carbohydrates. This is healthier for pond fish in colder months as it is much easier to digest, and increases fat reserves for the coldest parts of year when your fish won't feel like feeding.
Why not try our own (very popular!) brand wheatgerm this year?
An often overlooked tropical aquarium fish, Kribensis can make a bold and hardy centerpiece in a larger community aquarium.
Kribensis are very easy to breed, plant safe and stay small (around 10cm). They can be kept along side more robust community fish such as larger barbs, larger tetras, livebearers and bottom feeders such as cories and bristlenose. Females will show a stunning red colouration around the abdomen in breeding condition.
Best kept singly or in opposite s*x pairs. Ensure there are plenty of decorations and plants to break up the line of sight from other fish when breeding, as these fish can be very protective of their young! π
Another popular Central American livebearer, swordtails are peaceful fish known for the sword-like extension on the male's tail fin. They can add a splash of colour and activity to medium and larger sized aquariums.
If you fancy a breeding project, swords can be a perfect choice for new and more advanced fish keepers. You can cross breed different colours together or even line breed your own strain! π¬
As well as making your aquarium look great, adding live plants to your tank has many benefits, including;
β’ Absorbing nitrates
β’ Providing cover for small or shy fish
β’ Providing oxygen during the day
β’ Reduce algae
β’ Mimic natural habitats
β’ Providing a source of food
β’ Helps support good bacteria growth
Budgies can make perfect small companion pets for children and adults alike π¦
Due to their intelligence and social nature budgies can be taught to do various tricks and commands. They will also learn to mimic certain sounds and words they hear often!
Easy to care for, budgies don't require the specialised diets and large spaces of bigger parrot species but they do require commitment and companionship from their owners or other budgies.
Check out some of our current stock of South American cichlids!
Cichlids are some of the most rewarding tropical fish to keep. Colourful, hardy and full of personality β€οΈ
Care requirements do differ between species so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask in store. π¬

Spring is here and it's a great time to stock up your pond with some beautiful fish!π Check out a selection of our current stock. Now is also a good time to carry out pond maintenance, so make sure your filters and pumps are working efficiently and don't forget to change your UV bulbs.
Dwarf Congo frogs are back in stock! πΈπΈ These frogs stay small (2.5 inches) and can be an unusual addition to a tropical community aquarium of small fish. They will spend their entire life in the water only coming up for a gulp of air. Feed them good quality frozen or live foods such as bloodworm. Remember to keep your aquarium lid closed!!!
FISH OF THE MONTH: Green Tiger Barb! π π Green tiger barbs are an aquarium raised variety of the tiger barb (Puntius tetrazona var.) which is native to Indonesia and Malaysia. They are popular fish due to their green colourtion which is very rare to find in freshwater fish. Green tiger barbs are very hardy and active fish and their appearance improves with age! They have a reputation of being a nippy fish but this is only really a problem when maintained in aquaria that is too small or they are kept in small numbers. However any long finned fish are still best avoided. Ideally they should be kept in groups of 8+ in medium to large tanks. They will accept most commercial fish foods and will do well with other tropical fish that are a similar size including larger tetras, other barbs, cory catfish and most pleco species.
Some very colourful Bettas and gourami in this week, a great large size too! Also in this week are neon tetras, wild type and albino rainbow sharks, glass shrimps and Chinese sucking loach. π π
π π π Some fantastic livebearers in this week!π π π So named because they give birth to live young. Mollies, guppies, platies and swordtails make excellent community fish. They are colourful, active, hardy, easy to breed and peaceful. What's not to love? πβ€οΈ
