Let’s talk about nails… 📣📣

At The Barker Shop not only do I groom dogs, but I also offer ‘Tooth & Nail Spa’ services.

There’s a science to dogs nails and many people don’t realise, you can’t just “cut them short”.

Ever wonder whether your groomer trims your dogs nails during the groom? It’s a question we get asked A LOT!

Well, we do!! BUT we can only trim the excess nail material away and always avoid the “Quick” - the nerve that is within the nail.

When using nail clippers; we generally don’t remove as much of the nail because if we snip the edge of the quick, it will bleed. So, we generally get as close as possible, but depending on the individual dog, this can still leave visible amount of nail material. This is because the quick is very different in each individual dog.

By grinding the nail; it allows us to get closer to the quick without CUTTING through it.

Regular nail maintenance is essential for some dogs whose nails grow faster than their grooming appointments are scheduled. Therefore the “Pawdicure” appointment, in between their grooming appointment is recommended to keep them in check.

If you would like to switch from nail clipping to nail grinding you can request this at the time of the appointment.

(Full disclosure: I’ve got the worst brain fog and I’m super busy and easily distracted… please give me a nudge to remind me! 🆘🤣👀🙈)

I’m absolutely swamped with requests and want to make sure all my regular, existing clients are taken care of first and that no one slips through the giant net that is currently my brain!! 😬🤦‍♀️❤️

From August, I’m reducing my working week by a day, so my schedule is tighter than ever. Please message me to schedule your appointments to make sure your pup doesn’t miss out.

If I have messaged you with appointments and don’t get any response, after a few days, I’ll assume you don’t want them and the appointments will passed on to the next customer, so please let me know as soon as possible.

Due to a change in personal circumstances I will need to change my rest day to a Tuesday.

This will be effective from the beginning of August until the end of November.

All appointments impacted will need to be swapped to an alternative day.

Morning guys,

I’m getting a lot of new enquiries from new customers at the moment so thought it was worth putting out a notice for all.

The majority of my clients have been with me for a long time now and their dogs are on 5,6,7, or 8 week schedules.

This not only keeps the dogs in a healthy state in terms of their grooming requirements but is also best practice in keeping grooming as part of a regular routine for their own acceptance of the process.

As we all know, dogs work best with a routine. It keep’s anxiety and stress to a minimum and allows me to create the best grooms I can, safely.

That said, most of my clients keep to their schedule, by booking their appointments for the whole year. This leaves only a handful of availability for last minute bookings.

I’m usually booked solid 1-2 months in advance.

Any new clients who are looking for this kind of regular schedule for their dog are welcome to contact me and book in advance.

Any existing clients who have new Puppies, I will always keep them in The Barker Shop family and make space for them regardless. ❤️🐾
